said by "VirusBuster Newsletter":
Mydoom.R spreads as an attachment to e-mail messages to addresses collected from the infected computer. The attachment to the messages is the approximately 26 kB long worm. On the infected systems is also drops a 8191 bytes long backdoor component.
MyDoom.R ?
is this the same virus?

Web Worm Spreads, Slows Google Searches Email this story
Jul 26, 2:44 PM (ET)
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - An Internet worm that uses Web search engines to find new victims spread widely on Monday, apparently causing problems for Google Inc. on the day it set the price range for its initial public offering, Internet security experts reported.
The reports about the worm, a variant of a Web attack called MyDoom, came as outages on the search site Google.com hit in the United States, France and Great Britain. In many places the site was said to be working normally.
"The latest version of MyDoom, which started arriving in people's mail boxes in force today, uses search engines to find more recipients for its message," security research service SANS reported on Monday. "Some search engines report performance issues."
Web site performance slowed broadly on Monday, suggesting the possibility that a virus or other Internet attack may be causing problems, said Keynote Systems Inc. (KEYN.O), a Web performance tracking firm.
"It could be an indication that something is impacting the Internet overall. We are certainly looking into it and also looking into the possibility of some sort of attack. We are starting to see things creep up," said Keynote spokeswoman Della Lowe. "

It is: quote: ...the virus searches user files for domain names, then uses Lycos, Google, Altavista, or Yahoo to find for valid e-mail addresses within these domains. Those engines in turn are having trouble keeping up with the load as the infection spreads.

| With a virus, you don't have to put a lot of time into it. If there is a bug, big deal! No one is using it for anything but what you want it to do.
While the code used these worms and virii isn't altogether lame, it isn't brilliant either. How much brainpower would it take to write a worm that causes all printers available to print 1000 pages with lines of gibberish? Nothing close to what it takes to create a program that analyzes the results from tests of quantum theory.
These virus writers just attempt to exploit the fruits of the real innovators. If half of the world's software/technology innovators turned evil and worked together to create worms and virii, the information superhighway would be permanently destroyed within days.
Most of the time virus writers put into their product is how to sneak it past the end user. I'm sure it took a REAL genius to figure out that you could make a lot of people open an otherwise suspicious email by labeling the attachment Anna Kournikova. Gee how did they come up with that gem!
