Well it depends My neighborhood is all UG and on the corner of my property I have a TWC tap/eq, mostly UG, a FIOS node, and and old Verizon Network box (copper). With some nice landscaping, you cant even see them anymore. It took 3 years... Also power transformer (I think).
Once you get to end of the street where they are aerial, the cabinets are mounted high up on the poles and you really need to look for them. Cable taps don't even notice.
So it would seem that technology has some downsides, and I read that these are fiber nodes (FTTN), so I don't see how that is a bad thing if they landscape properly and it isn't that big and put out of the way.
Of course right of way was created because there needs to be a balance between public utilities and private land (which BTW isnt really private). If you let a cluster of old a**holes make the decision there is always going to be some DB that doesn't want anything on their property.
Now they can build it UG, but that costs $$$, so my take on it is like those nasty VRADS, if you want to put it on my prop, pay a lease or give them discounted service....I can properly landscape it.
Verizon fixed my bushes after they ripped them up when they installed FIOS, even if it took a couple of calls...

Re: cabinets And no one would care because they're all rocking 50mbps Comcast connections anyways.
