Their lawyers are going to be awfully busy and the stock may be in for a bumpy ride for some time. Do you see this affecting their virtual dominance of integrated network interface chips in Dell/HP/IBM servers? I doubt it will have any effect on long term contracts for chips. The major strategic issue would be if lost lawsuits would have an affect on the financing capabilities of the company going forward. This could raise the cost of capital for Broadcom and make their products more expensive versus their competitors. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page

| Re: Betterment of society said by supergirl:The Devil doesn't have a mom. The guy looks like a Russian Mob Boss. The devil? He's not quite THAT bad. Before this article I never heard about the guy. Slipping the ecstasy into an associates drink aside, his alleged crimes are either against him (prostitution), society (drugs), or investors (securities issues). These aren't victimless crimes, but they lean more towards the hurt-yourself-more-than-others type of crimes.
If you look at his life in general, he actually appears to be a fairly decent guy. Check out his list of philanthropic efforts including a variety of charities. Some of his main efforts resulted from the murder of his sister and ironically have been towards law enforcement, criminal justice, and victims rights.

| | Just another example... This guy is just ANOTHER example of why the "war on drugs" is an abject failure and can never be "won". When you've got money and power and are still getting high, clearly it shows that all the law enforcement actions and government propaganda about drugs aren't working. With that said, this guys certainly needs to be locked away - getting yourself high is a victimless crime, but dosing other people, apparently without their knowledge, is a whole other ball of wax. | |

| said by NetAdmin1:getting yourself high is a victimless crime, but dosing other people, apparently without their knowledge, is a whole other ball of wax. The NYT article doesn't really go into details on this, but I wonder under what circumstances he did this. Obviously the guy has a drug and prostitute issue...and it also appears that some of his co-workers may have also partook in some of the festivities. And prosecutors appear to be rightfully throwing the book at the guy. But I wonder if the drugs in the associates drink is exaggerated some and was just part of the party. I'm not saying that isn't right, but things aren't always what they appear either. | |

Sounds to me like he just wasn't bribing the right people. That's probably why this story came out in the first place. Not in Orange County. There is no one left to bribe. Even the Sheriff is going to jail. Wish the feds would spend the same amount of time investigatng LA...
The politically incorrect explanation for Nicholas is simple: he's a [rich] nerd, and is trying to make up for lost time with the ladies, but once married and the head of a major corporation, you can't just hang out in the local nightclub, so you literally have to party "underground".
The simple solution to this phenomenon would be to make brothels legal and regulated, and for women to learn tolerance for men's needs.
