Senator Ted Cruz has lifted is hold on Tom Wheeler's nomination as the new head of the FCC, allowing the Senate to confirm Wheeler's nomination last night. Wheeler, a former cable and wireless lobbyist, faces a sea of important policy decisions over the coming months -- most importantly the telcos push to completely deregulate traditional copper networks as they try to hang up on millions of DSL users they do not want to upgrade. "Tom brings a tremendous depth of experience, talent, and knowledge that will serve him well as the leader of this critically important agency," interim FCC boss Mignon Clyburn said in a statement.
How about choosing people from more technical backgrounds such as radio station engineers, cable plant managers, communication planners. In other words, the people who actually understand how the technology works. Nothing sounds more corrupt than a former lobbyist.
The thing is the FCC regulates very little. And their main focus/creation reason was not for TV nor telephone or any of that sort- it was solely to combat illegal/pirate radio stations. Which the FCC needs to go back to.

Just what we need! They have been working out so well we should get more. Thank goodness the ban on lobbyist "hirings" thing didn't last. -- Nocchi rules.

I prefer the term 'bribers'. Bribing is a crime, no matter what shady terms are used. If any type of monetary deal is made, its a crime. Who Cruz? He spoke up about obamacare is now getting backlash even though he may be right.. I mean hell if people like being punished for being stupid he might as well let it happen.. Wheeler is just another robot with a suit... Nothing positive for the consumer will come from him.. He however will obtain a nice office job from one of the big telecoms in this F'd up country for selling us out.. Its what we do best in the US
with a supposedly former cable/wireless lobbyist running the FCC the cable/wireless executives must be having a huge celebration tonight... Now that they have one of their own heading the FCC..good grief...what a mess!
Just wondering how much the cable/wireless paid the various senator to approve the nomination? Or how much this guy gets when he leaves the FCC sometime in the future and goes back to a cushy job for cable/wireless?
Consumers will definitely get screwed. The cable/wireless companies will have freedom to run amok unhindered by the FCC.
