After seeing what NBC did to the weather channel comcast can't do much worse. Dumping the repeated over night forecast with a weather scan system on the main channel like how the weather channel Australia does it will be better. Comcast does a good job with sports and after what NBC did to the olympics comcast has a lot room to make things better. NBC also messed up sci-fi as well.

I think if comcast owns NBC , the network will disappear in months. Its barely watchable now. I avoid MSNBC, TWC , scifi. They are so opposite there mission now.

TechTV Comcast (and other cable cos shot themselves in the foot) as in many areas you have to get a digital + subscription or higher to view G4 (TechTV) I would have gladly payed it but not so much now.

force CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network to be on Directvforce CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network / CN100 to be on Directv and other systems as well.

Re: force CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network to be on Directvcan't. the FCC loopholes get around that. and those will never be fixed and if so they'll be grandfathered in. If not, Comcast will just sue the FCC, again.

If not, Comcast will just sue the FCC, again. but right now THE NBA, NHL and MLB force that feed on NBA LP, NHL CI and MLB EI so maybe they need to put crack down even more and give the there feeds to people in Philly on directv the feeds are there all they to do is unlock them from being blacked out in phlly and make it so you people there get them with needing to buy NBA LP, NHL CI and MLB EI. Just think if CSN Chi when comcast only the teams may dump the network or SAY NO as they own 80% of it.

Re: force CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network to be on Directvwon't happen.
They have black out markets for a reason. Many of those are due to they dont' sell enough people paying to watch the game. It's all about who comes out ahead and the customers don't.
I know what you mean though. I work for a large retailer and we have DirecTV at the store. There are several games that are advertised for DirecTV and when it comes down to it we can't watch them due to being in the blackout market because of those numbers.

Re: force CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network to be on Directvthe fcc passed a law closing the loophole but I think comcast challenged it. The fcc won the first challenge but I have a feeling this will go to the supreme court.

Re: force CSN Philly / CSN + / comcast network to be on Directvwhen was that closed? there was only talk about closing it.
And by the way. the FCC can NOT pass laws. They don't have that power. They pass rules.

Kohl wants dumb pipe - he'll never get itKohl wants Comcast to turn in to a dumb pipe for internet access and he also wants to make sure Comcast gets ZERO benefit from taking over NBC Universal. Why doesn't he just come right out and say that he against the merger and stop pretending that it is OK with these idiotic conditions.
Ah, it doesn't matter. What he wants is totally irrelevant and won't make it in to the approval conditions by DOJ or FCC.

Re: Kohl wants dumb pipe - he'll never get ityep and when you force Comcast that way you better be sure to get the other providers the same; ATT, TWC, WOW, and ALL small mom and pop providers as well.

said by hottboiinnc4:...and ALL small mom and pop providers as well. Most small mom & pop providers already are just dumb pipe providers, if you exclude email & web hosting. I don't think they would mind having the proverbial "level playing field".
|
| | | | |
Re: Kohl wants dumb pipe - he'll never get itno i don't exclude the mail and web hosting because that doesn't make them a dumb pipe provider. If they offer it then they're not one. In order to be one they can only provide a connection and nothing else except support and billing. And with that ISPs are not going to go that way any time soon. So if anyone wants one; they better start partnering with Covad to build one out.

Consumer Protection???the only "consumer protection" is your own brain...you cant regulate it.

on the NBC broadcast networkThat can't mess with the NBC OTA signal I don't think can they? Also, when this goes through Comcast can't suddenly demand that NBC be on a expanded tier can they?
|
| |
Re: on the NBC broadcast networkfor cable. some of their shows yes. They could take them off NBC and move them to a "new channel" but as far as pulling NBC off the OTA no. But keep in mind that you still have your locals indie stations. They just use the NBC name and national programming. If Comcast was to pull that then the stations would be up a creak in terms of actual content besides info-mericals.

Don't Trust Comcast when $ is involvedWith over-the-air stations struggling for revenues, Comcast could be tempted to migrate much of its best content onto its cable channels or its extensive video-on-demand offerings, where it could charge extra.
"What this means is that more and more programming will probably be put behind the walled garden,"
Comcast insists that it remains dedicated to providing free broadcast programming, and it is voluntarily committing to keep at least three-quarters of its On Demand library available to subscribers at no extra charge for three years after the deal closes.
Other analysts also point out that Comcast could find that it can make more money by selling the rights to its programming as widely as possible.
There could be different programing on cable and OTA. Each local non NBC owned affiliate negotiates with NBC corporate for broacasting rights.
I am not a Comcast hater but I sure don't trust them and there have been articles in our local newspaper with staements from the local NBC affiliate that they are worried about this merger.
As an aside I don't think Comcast could do any worse than GE in runnung the NBC stations broadcast and cable in to the gound. They have killed MSNBC.

Re: Don't Trust Comcast when $ is involvedthe local affiliates should be. For once they'll be put in their places. You have their owners demanding $$$$ just to carry the always "award winning news" and then you have Comcast already paying NBC. But the locals are always bitching about if Comcast or any other company doesn't give in and pay will hurt the community and that the people should change providers.
Comcast needs to smack SinClair and the others around and make them do as they should. The same as BK did with the $1 double cheese burger.
