Slashdot Discovers Powerboost
Mysterious 19Mbps not so mysterious....

User Cabal writes in: "There's an amusing article over at Slashdot, full of speculation about Comcast and speed tests, with a lot of amusing theories by folks who couldn't be bothered to read the Comcast website. The entire discussion quickly devolved into a network neutrality flame war." The user that is dumbfounded by his sudden 18Mbps connection has discovered Powerboost, a technology launched last June by Comcast.

Powerboost offers some impressive speeds for the first few moments of a large download -- sometimes significantly higher than what the confused Slashdot reader observes. The company started offering upstream Powerboost last May. Cox also started offering Powerboost in some markets earlier this year.

Slashdot?...Ric Romero?...Flamewar?...

Are you trying to convince me that Slashdot is woefully late reporting on a reasonably well-known technology, and that their discussion thread devolved into an utterly unrelated flamewar?

I'm shocked.
