Small town store in Oklahoma steps into the Web

KENTON, Okla. — Tucked in the back room of the Kenton general store sits a 4-year-old Hewlett Packard PC that is about to change this town of 18 people. In the shadows of towering mesas where cattle graze from Colorado to New Mexico to Oklahoma in just a few steps is the state's newest Internet cafe

It is a mile from Oklahoma's highest point — Black Mesa — and 40 minutes from anywhere. The land is a strange mix of New Mexico desert, Colorado altitude and Oklahoma grassland, but there is no mistaking in which state this general store resides.

Its bathroom is adorned with a University of Oklahoma pennant dangling by one corner above the door, an OU sticker on the toilet lid and an upside down crimson football helmet for storing yet-to-be-used bathroom tissue.
