| | | | This is what they needed to do originally Sprint made a mistake pricing combo 3G/4G rates higher to begin with as you can only be on one or the other network. If they want to get WiMAX devices out there en masse, they have to do this.
This really is a big deal because if you are going to get a 3G data device, you may as well get a combo WiMAX one anyway even if WiMAX is not yet in your market.
This is the way to give WiMAX devices some penetration and Sprint is finally figuring that out.
This also puts the pressure on 3G data card makers. Why would anyone buy one if the monthly rate is same for 3G/4G card. Hopefully all EVDO card makers will now be pressured include WiMAX.

3G datacard users won't be saturating the network. I've had my Sprint Treo 800w going on to 1x a LOT lately, and I'm 1/3 mile from the nearest site (-74dBm).

| Fits in ith the Overdrive strategy very well I'm curious as to what kinds of speeds the Sprint Overdrive can dish up while in 4G territory. Seems like it's a no-fuss way to get both home and travel internet from one provider, and if the speeds are good enough the price is about what someone would pay for U-Verse DSL on the high end or cable, except you can take your internet with you.
It would of course be nice if the Overdrive had an Ethernet port (like the Cradlepoint CTR350) to hook up a switch or LAN-bound computer to, but the out-of-box simplicity is a big draw here.
Oh, and Sprint has had the $60 3G + 4G for a week or so now.

I have a customer that upgraded four months ago with more phones and new 3G/4G Sierra Wireless USB dongle (with antenna jack). The customer has the same data plan from a few years ago - the billing statement for the past several months still lists "unlimited" data and monthly usage is around 40 GB per month.

| | | Re: Where is the 4G? said by iLive4Fusion:Well great but when will Sprint actually be deploying a real 4G network? As far as i'm concerned the current so called 4G including LTE is 3.9G. Technically it's not 4G, if you want to be all technical and junk then AT&T is running it's 4th gen network too because they started with Analog which is their first tech, then TDMA, then GSM and now W-CDMA 3G which is their 4G. Show me some 100mbps true 4G and ill bite, though I doubt when they actually have real 4G the prices won't be so low Well to clear it up, GSM uses TDMA, as TDMA is for multiplexing the frequencies. Anyways, ITU sets the standards for what each generation is haha. | |

| a stupid idea? while the prices for FIOS products & services are going up.. I can see no reason why Verizon would RAI$E they're already rediculously high (highest?) cellular prices whether it be prepaid or post paid. having inferior network (build you SOB's!!!) competitors doesn't mean that there aren't any.. | |
