Sprint Google Voice Integration Goes Live Ahead of Next Week's Expected Launch... Friday Apr 22 2011 13:41 EST Back in March Sprint announced that the company would be incorporating closer integration with Google Voice functionality. While there has been chatter of an April 26 launch date for the integration, it looks like the service is already being deployed to some non-beta test users on a staggered basis. The tighter integration allows Sprint users to access calls and text messages, place calls through Google Voice’s Web interface, and take advantage of Google Voice discounted international rates. Users can retain their Sprint number, or they can have their Google Voice number replace their Sprint number on their handset. Tighter Google Voice integration is an interesting move by Sprint, and one you probably won't see with larger carriers like AT&T or Verizon, who fear the platform because it involves ceding control of several key bits of functionality including voicemail. |
