I can see iDEN as a major improvement across the board but only after it's overall security is enhanced and provide backward compatibility. More than likely we might be seeing more Motorola radios in the comm shop sooner rather than later. | |

T-Mobile could use the towers that Spent-Nextel own to expand their coverage area. And slowly start shutting down the network over a course of a few years and migrate everyone over to T-Mobile. If anyone renews their contract for what ever reason- they'd change to T-Mobile and also have the option to change to TM if they wanted to but NOT have the option to migrate over to Sprint. Wouldn't be hard. Spent should have done that instead of giving customers the option to go from Sprint to Nextel when they knew that the customers would have to change back to Sprint's CDMA network anyway.
Would have just made more sense to only allow customers to migrate from the "purchased" network to the already existing network. | |

Nextel should just be spun off (or sold off, if you can find anyone), all the people left on it are probably the types who you'd find the hardest to switch to anything else... let the company sink (more likely) or swim on its own, then they can't blame anyone when the ship goes down. | |

Now that qChat PTT is up and running on CDMA, Sprint needs to move as many iDen users to it, dump the iDen network and users who won't switch and move on and as a smaller, leaner more manageable company with a specific path. | |

Stick to the network that works best in your area even if it is, UnknownPCS Co. Now if you want to go national, go with the big boys.
Sprint has worked for me from the caribbean up to Ontario & Quebec, and then over to to the west coast and Mexico. | |

| Re: Spotty service Sprint used to have great coverage around the Midwest it was until after the Sprint-Nextel merger that coverage became a problem. Them moving equipment to Nextel towers and adding Nextel equipment to Sprint. adding Nextel to sprint was the only good thing that happened.
I had sprint and after the merger coverage sucked. Many people around the southwest MI and NW Ohio have the same problem with coverage- its spotty and does not roam around here to anyone else. | |

| Re: Spotty service Sprint service here depends on the side of town you're on and where they actually have the tower. None of them are located anywhere near within the city. AT&T on the other hand has some of their towers in the city and have a large network here thanks to the old AT&T Wireless-before Cingular's merger.

Sprint was the first carrier to roll out 3G, and they are looking to the future with WiMax. What has taken Sprint down is their customer service. The new CEO is working hard to fix that, but I think it might be too late. I called Sprint customer service the other day, and I must say it was actually a positive experience for once.

Odd, I thought it was pretty clearly obvious that CDMA voice quality is better than GSM - it can be explained technically and is pretty obvious when checking them all from a landline phone. The worst sounding to me are ATT and T-Mobile phones. Sprint, Verizon, Alltel and other CDMA users w/out any question sound better - I suppose it's subjective. But it will also depend on the phone itself. Some CDMA phones are indeed crappy. | |

A minor billing issue now and then because I changed my plan in the middle of a billing period, but overall, the experience has been good. I have yet to stop in a place that I haven't at least had digital roaming, and usually regular coverage is good. | |

| No problems here. I don't really get it (at least for the CDMA side)... Sprint's been very good for me. Cheap price (SERO), and the few times I've had to call CS, they were great. I was given accurate info, and the one situation that couldn't be solved right away, the CSR said she'd call me back the next day, and she actually did, which doesn't happen too often these days...
Coverage is good too, not Verizon good, but good enough. There's just one place where I shop that doesn't have Sprint signal, the phone starts roaming, not really a deal breaker. | |

Sprint's customer service is slowly getting better.
Their commercials are getting better and make more sense.
Their phone lineup will be getting better I think.
QChat will be a good thing once Rev A is more widely available (mainly identical coverage to iDEN).
WiMAX is still unknown.
They need to buy out iPCS if they can afford it. People in those areas suffer greatly when compared to native Sprint areas.
This is all speaking about the CDMA side though. I don't believe they will be expanding iDEN anymore. Nextel customers were loyal and they really dislike Sprint (although Sprint isn't that bad in most areas), but because of the merger, Nextel customers didn't want to stay with Sprint, so most of them are the ones still leaving.
I don't know why some people think another merger is the answer. T-Mobile is a completely different technology, and the resulting company would be running 3+ technologies. That just spells disaster IMO.
I've had Sprint since 2000 and I've been pretty happy with them. I've only had a couple serious issues in the past 8 years, all of which I got resolved eventually. I've been happy with my phones and my service. Coverage was good in Texas where I lived and coverage is just as good (if not better) here in Illinois where I live. I don't travel a lot, but everywhere I've gone I've had good service. There's a couple areas that I know of that have bad coverage, but every carrier in those areas has bad coverage. | |

| Re: !.!.!.! SERO (and the way to finagle the discounts) is really only known to a few thousand people trolling deal sites therefore the overall impact of new lines from these people is really minimal.
Also, the all-you-can-eat plan has only been out for a couple of months (it might be too early to tell the impact of it) because people have a tendency to stay with their phone company until their contract runs out. With money being tight not many want to take a $150-200 ETF hit right now even if they can recoup it over the next 12 months. I didn't think people would be running to get this deal and unfortunately, I don't see the $100M campaign for the new Jesus-phone killer working either.
Sprint needed to make something happen quickly and I think they had the right idea to just offer up it's network as a 'dumb pipe' system for a fixed price. Not sure if the simply everything plan will be enough to save the company because the $99 price point is still pretty high. Maybe these new subscriber losses will push the price even lower. How about a $30 SERO plan for the masses, that would kick AT&T, VZW in the pants. Unfortunately, your share holders would stage a mutiny...

Sprints phone selection, customer service and options are virtually non-existent.
When canceling, they told me I would have $600 in fees for breaking the contract. Turned out, when I called to cancel, the first rep renewed my contract without saying a word then transferred me to retention to try to "save" me (she told me she was not capable of canceling an account). The retention rep just looked at my account and told me I would owe $600. Took me an hour of going back and forth to find out that the first rep did what they did.
Stay clear of Sprint aka "The Sinking Ship"
Besides, I am looking forward to the construction of Verizon's new broadband network based off the old analog spectrum. | |

| Sprint works like a charm and is very inexpensive Crystal clear call quality ..no dropped calls ..V3M phone is easy to use ..no issues with billing ..basically no issues at all..even roaming works and is free.
For about $31/mo ..I can make a voice call anytime I want.
I never run out of minutes an duse the after hours mins too.
Then again ..I only make phone calls ..all the other crap is for other people to play with. I just don't need or want it.

My friend Tony was paying 128 bucks a month on Verizon. I told him to go to Sprint with a SERO account. He couldn't be happier than a pig in Sh!t.
He's paying 34 a month, walks around with his laptop and tethers (every day) sends a ton of messages. As a matter of fact, he paid 175 dollars to verizon to get out of his contract. Now he's getting his mom and sister to drop VZ and move over to sprint.
My cousin Charlie he used to be on a regular 450min plan paying 49 bucks plus the text msg+picture mail was paying like 70 bucks... but I got him 27% off with my corp discount. He switched to the 30 dollar SERO, they kept his corp discount, now he's bill is like 28 dollars, has more mins and texts faster than he can type on a freaken keyboard.
I have an old plan, 70 a month for 2 phones (800 Min) + 15 for EVDO + 8 for 500 text - 27% off = Monthly $78 bucks. If I go over my 800 Mins... I only pay 5 bucks for 100 mins. | < |
