story category Sprint Offers Pre For $100, Then Doesn't
'System error' briefly offered good deal...

In what might have been an indication initial sales didn't quite meet expectations, Sprint today announced that the carrier was bringing the price of the Palm Pre down to $100 for users switching to Sprint from other carriers. According to Sprint the offer was supposed to be available only to new customers who sign up for a two year contract by October 31, the $100 rebate applied over the course of three bills. But just hours after it was announced, Sprint canceled the offer because it was "erroneously made available in the company's system." Of course the offer's still live on Sprint's website, so, uh, nice work, Sprint.

I switched to Sprint over a month ago ...

I switched to Sprint over a month ago and there was a $50 credit per phone, which reduced to cost of the Pre to $150.

i feel my privacy is better maintained by google than ... at&t... sprint and verizon.

at&t/sprint/verizon all just hand over anything to the govt without any just cause... google requires just cause.

Take a lot more than a couple of rebates...

I don't know man , lately Verizon has been sucking here. And as much as I want an iphone now that I can synch it with corporate email , Im not willing to sell my soul to the at&t devils yet.

As much as people complain about AT&T's service, at least for me it has been pretty good. Like most services, mileage varies with what hardware you have and where you are.

I was on the fence about getting a Pre,

but with other choices available/coming soon to Sprint - HTC Hero, HTC Touch Pro 2, and BB Tour w/wi-fi next year, the Pre now looks less attractive.

Yep, my Touch Pro2 is set to arrive tomorrow! I loved the Pre (had it for a couple days before returning it), but it's not compatible with my ultra discounted SERO plan, so I decided to pass on it. I have high hopes for the TP2 but may try out the Hero too if it's SERO compatible.

The TP2 is horribly priced for such few upgrades over the TP. I would have went with the Hero in your case (I have the Pre).

this shouldn't surprise anyone who knows sprint

this is the company that sent out cd's with the instinct that had tethering (phone as modem) software links... but you cant buy tethering (phone as modem) for that phone...

sprint is what you call organized chaos... so many teams going in so many directions and none of them what the customer wants

I was at the Sprint store today, actually looking at a Pre...

Had I known about this at the time (and could have got it before it was rescinded) I would have pulled the trigger.

But now I think I'll wait for the HTC Hero to decide...

[edit]
Of course, Now I'm at the sprint site and the Pre is listed at $149 after MIR and Instant Savings. I'm almost sold...

And if you buy it at Best Buy, rumor has it that the mail-in rebate turns into an instant rebate

Re: rats

Do you still get the ability to cancel without an early termination fee within 30 days if you buy and activate at Best Buy?

I've been considering switching from my iPhone 3G/AT&T to the Palm Pre/Sprint-- but want to make sure that I don't get locked into a 2 year contract on a network I'm unhappy with.

Being that I'm not 100% sure about moving to Sprint, I was thinking starting up a new line of service (vs porting my existing number from AT&T). If it works well for me, would they (Sprint) be able to port my AT&T number in and assign it to the account (replacing the newly activated number) within or after the 30 days? I think I'm ready to pull the trigger, but just not 100% sure...

Re: rats

That I don't know, but I bet someone at a Sprint store and a rep at Best Buy could answer it for you. Just use the voice recorder in your iPhone to record the conversation :P

I believe they still offer the 30 day cancellation. When I upgraded my phones, about 6 months ago, that was still going on. I signed the new contract, and it had that if you returned the phone and canceled service within 30 days you will have no cancellation fee.

I believe they still offer the $60 for 500 mins, unlimited data, unlimited GPS, text, picture mail, nights starting at 7:00pm, music premier, TV premier, etc etc. Probably one of their best deals for an individual plan, and it should work with the Pre. If you can't get it online, go to a store. That's what my friend did when he got his. They gave him the Everything Plus Data plan (above) with a Pre for $59.99 per month....
