They are not doomed, thier previous ceo put them into a good position. Thier purchases of thier affiliates, and thier wimax deals, will enable them to implement thier next generation network coast to coast with a fat pipe to the rest of the world.
Thier competition showed that the prices the bell networks charged did not reflect the cost of the service. They are not the same company as then but ...
Competition is good. | |

Dump iDenSince they'll rollout the qChat PTT network on CDMA next year, they need to shutdown the iDen network ASAP. They should stop selling iDen only phones and give away iDen/CDMA/qChat combo phones next year and then shutdown the iDen network. They may lose a million users but they need to take the hit and move on.
Get that done and improve customer support and they're back on track.

what a huge pile of shit this guy has been handed. I would feel sorry for him if he weren't former ATT.

Re: new CEO or no CEOWhether Sprint spins off Xohm or not, WiMAX will likely happen near nationwide (100+ markets anyway) in 3 years or so. Could be owned by Google by then.

People talk about Sprint as if it were about to fold.It is not. It is still a profitable company. In its last quarter, though it did have a net loss in postpaid subs, it was still in the black, it hasn't had a quarter in which it posted an net loss since shortly after the merger, I think (when it took some restructuring charges).
Its balance-sheet position and capital acquisition capabilities are enough to get it through the next couple years at least without being threatened with bankruptcy, so there is still time to turn things around.

Re: People talk about Sprint as if it were about to fold.Yeah, it's a $40B+ Fortune 100 company, 53rd in fact with over $1B profit. The car companies have had serious issues but are just too big to go away. Even if Sprint lost several million more customers, they'd still be a Fortune 100 company. Sprint will transition but it was always known it would take about 5 years. It's only been a few years so far since the merger. » money.cnn.com/magazines/ ··· 258.html

Sprint will not fold, the only reason why people speak about it in such a way, is because the big boys can feel the heat Sprint will bring too the table once they complete the whole company reconstruction.
I been betting on Sprint ever since the merger, and now with a new CEO from his background it sounds like he can provide even better financial stability and power too the company making them competitive and at the same time not breaking the bank.
With the ability to maintain two completely different networks, merge customer service and billing systems and still gain profits every quarter and invest money in other technologies all at the same time.
Long nights and dark coffee.

If Sprint would hire an entrepreneur CEO, they probably would succeed. And, maybe be ONE cell system would be smart too.

Re: People talk about Sprint as if it were about to fold.Indeed. I am not suggesting all is sunshine and roses with the company. I just think the tone of the opinionating one sees about it is entirely hyperbolic.

Yeah, but the aholes on wallstreet keep running their traps and killing the stock. I love it when Sprint comes out and talks about 300million dollar contracts, new technology and then getting a new CEO and the stock still drops all because some overpaid crackhead on wallstreet has to get rich in the next 24 hrs. Didn't these jackoffs learn anything from the Japanese when they all but buried our car industry and other electronic companies in the 70's to present about how long term is better then no term? As sad as it is, Sprint can do no right in anyone's (media and stock brokers eyes). They have good products and a next to none network. But if they are not raking in the doe, they are crap and people talk smack about'em. Well, they have been around for over a hundred years (under different names) and they have weathered many storms. This is just one of the worst.

Re: People talk about Sprint as if it were about to fold.I sell Sprint and AT&T and have sold Verizon. Verizon and AT&T only care about themselves. Sprint offers a better line up of phones, allows customers to upgrade after 1 year, willing to help out customers while their phones are under warranty. Their aircards cannot be beat. Overall it is a good Company and cares about their customers. They are however, in need of real leadership. Without it their customer svc and Account Executives have an "I don't care" attitude. In reference to IDEN phones: They should not be dropped. The walkie talkie is the best in the industry and Verizon nor AT&T can come close with their push to talk that is not great! I am very happy selling Sprint. I like their products a lot especially the Blackberrys and aircards. I hope they do well and I have seen some good intentions and not a lot of, "I am Verizon Wireless" attitude. I wish Sprint a great 2008; they deserve it!
