DALLAS - A wireless startup has sued a former partner and Motorola Inc., charging they conspired to lock up a new technology that allows emergency workers to communicate over the Internet even if cell-phone towers fail. NexGen City LP said in the lawsuit filed Wednesday in state district court in Dallas that former partner Meshnetworks began to compete against NexGen and then was acquired by Motorola.
NexGen said that Motorola's acquisition of privately-held Meshnetworks indicated that it wanted to monopolize communication technology for emergency personnel. NexGen seeks unspecified damages and nullification of Motorola's purchase of Maitland, Fla.-based Meshnetworks. A spokesman for Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola said the company had not seen the lawsuit but would anyway decline to comment on a pending case. Full article
