| Ok so be it No offence but after 20 years of 30 bucks an hour plus benefits you'd think they would have saved a few dollars for retirement. If they don't have the money to pay them then so be it. Why do I have to pay for it as a tax payer. No way man.

Your viewpoint on this couldn't possibly be more hypocritical. I remember not too long ago you were on government disability because a medical condition kept you from working. Those disability cheques helped you through a very rough time. Yet as a taxpayer, I helped pay your way. And I didn't mind one bit because I believe in helping those in need. Obviously you have forgotten what you have come through and who helped you get back on your feet. How very sad.

| Re: Ok so be it Relax Michael, I also pay into the tax disability fund. What I've heard on CBC about this situation is Sheila Copps wants the government(tax payers)to cover their losses. Everyone knows that company pension plans are similar to the stock market. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You'll never see the government covering investor losses. I once worked for a company that deducted a few dollars a pay for company shares. If the company went bankrupt I would have lost all I invested. This is where I'm coming from.

| Re: Ok so be it It all boils down to this. Their pension fund is protected by the province (stated in the article). The problem is, other steel companies have gone bankrupt and have really stretched the allotment that the provincial government has set aside (for protected pensions) so the federal government may step in to help.
It's all about helping those in need.
Just like when you couldn't work because of your medical condition, even though you paid into the disability program, all taxpayers helped pay the cost of your time spent on disability.

| How sad to think that men and women who worked hard all their lives have to worry about this. Imagine being over 60 and living off a little more the $700/month, I have no idea what their Canada Pension amounts to. This money was promised to them and they have planned their retirement years on this. To be told at their age it may be cut in half is incredible.
Great now we could have a bunch of senior citizens pumping gas to make ends meet. Oh I am sure a few of them had other investments.
We can either help them meet their pension requirements or we can pay them on welfare. Either way no one can live of 1/2 that pension.
