Rumors of a Charter bankruptcy filing have been looming for months, and Moody's investment service has now downgraded Charter for the second time since December. Charter's rating was reduced to "Caa3," nine steps below investment grade, due to the increased likelihood of default -- since the grace period for Charter’s missed interest payments of $74 million expire Sunday. Even if the interest payments are made prior to expiration of the grace period, Moody's anticipates Charter will likely have to file a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code," Moody's said in a statement. Update: It looks like it finally arrived hours after we posted this. The company insists any restructuring will not impact operations.

Moodys doesn't rate stock

"Charter's stock was reduced to "Caa3,"

That's Charters Bonds they're talking about hence the missed interest payments they refer to.

Charters stock is probably worthless. Bondholders will probably wind up with something according to current estimates if the company does file Bk.

Goodbye

Charter won't survive this economy. After bankruptcy their franchises will be sold off to other various cables companies.

To me it sounds like they are trying to reorganize the company and save it. They just hired a turn around guy.

Goodbye....it can't get any worse

ANYTHING will be better than what Charter is today. MAYBE, just maybe the next guys will fix some of the stupid cable routing decisions made in my area. Like running cable for a mile, with open fields on both sides, right up to where houses START....then ending the cable.

Their best one was promising me cable to arrive one spring, by leaving a message on my answering machine. Spring came, no cable. When I called them, they claimed I was the one lying. Too bad I didn't keep that message....

Goodbye Charter....your demise can't come fast enough for me.....

Charter

I have had charter internet for almost 2 years now and I don't really have any complaints. They have screwed up my billing twice, but a 5 minute chat online fixed it each time. They have kept me at 5mb for $30/mo the whole time, which I think is a decent price.

Charter might not know how to run a company, but I don't see Time Warner, Comcast, or whoever will take over being any better.

I don't get catv though, so maybe that sucks?

Their internet is awesome here in Minnesota but I have many complaints about their CATV... especially their lack of HD offerings.

What's sad is Midconntinent Communications (small cable company out of Sioux Falls SD that covers a rather large number of small to large towns in north and south dakota) offers more HD channels than I get with Charter. Charter is the 4th largest cable company in the US and I don't even know if Midco falls on that list but they offer more HD channels.

That's coupled with old equipment and bad customer service leaves me angry with charter.

Re: Charter

Mid-Conntinent is a partnership between Comcast and Mid-Conntinent Media.
(I'm sure it helps with Comcast negotiating rates with the various networks.)

@charter.com

I WAS all charter. I signed on for directv 6 months ago and have never been happier. My charter internet is $59/mo for a 5m service. I get about 3m max at any time. I call and threaten to leave if they can't get me better service or price and they always say, no deal. I am now moving my phone to phonepower voip and going back to ATT dsl. The dsl will only get me the 3m but it's $20 a month cheaper and phonepower is $25/mo cheaper. Same service, $500/yr cheaper.

Charter dosen't offer ANY HD in my area. Only SD. They have overcompressed the digital channels so much that it looks worse than analog cable. No DVR, No On Demand options, and crappy Motorola set-top boxes from the mid 90's.

Charter has been the most expensive and crappiest cable, voip and internet provider I have ever had. Maybe i'll get lucky and one of the good companies will buy up their Connecticut customers.

hehe

1. Maybe this should be a sign to not hire foreign workers for tech support. Most can't be understood easily and working of a script is no replacement for real knowledge.

2. Offer cable tv services catered to peoples desires - I have no need for even 70 channels as I only watch a handful. If Charter were to go a la carte it would set the industry on it's butt and would pull in way more customers.

3. 'The customer is always right' is what most companies live by. If my service screws up, credit me. If my TV goes out for three days, credit me. Make sure to offer me good deals on product offerings and I'll be here for a long time.

Charter can do so much better. Why they don't I can't figure out.

not to hire foreign workers?
wake up my friend, foreign workers are holding the most critical positions in the overall infrastructure. Do you know why they are getting hired? will leave that out as your home work...
to help, you probably need to go and read some diversity book to help get that foreign-hate desease off you because you will continue to see us on the floor and most likely we will be your boss..
