Subaru 'boxer' turbo diesel (old news - 10:50PM Wednesday Feb 07 2007) Tipped by Subaru
The worlds first horizontally-opposed turbo diesel engine offering exceptional refinement and smoothness makes it debut at the 77th Geneva International Motor Show next month on the Subaru stand.
Both the engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive drivetrain will be unveiled as part of Subarus press conference at the show on March 6 at 10.15 am.
For Europe first but I wonder how long it would take to come here?
And for sure it will be in the Legacy first.
Subaru will be watching Honda VERY CLOSELY when the 2009 Accord ultra-low emissions diesel bows (as will I). If it takes off, Subaru might follow within a year or two.
My money's on diesel becoming a fad again, at least here in New York State. Diesel fuel is still very heavily taxed here (it costs more than premium gasoline today), and that coupled with reduced winter starting performance will keep them sitting unsold on dealers lots.
There will of course be a few early adopters who must have the latest and greatest, but unless the government steps up to the plate and makes diesel fuel more affordable little will change. -- Life is a journey; death is a given.
well the engine is already built and still doing testing going to be sold and placed in European legacy's first it's not like something that is just getting started.
