"Subaru displayed the first horizontally-opposed turbo-diesel engine which combines with Symmetrical AWD, the all-wheel-drive system that the company has now been developing in its passenger cars for 35 years.
According to Subaru, customers in Europe have been requesting a diesel engine and the boxer turbo-diesel enginenow in the final stage of developmentwill go on sale early in 2008."
Subaru boxer gasoline turbos first appeared in model year 1984 here; even the BRAT offered a turbo engine option!
Nice to see they're FINALLY coming out with a diesel, though I doubt it will be coming to USA models unless a lot of things change (i.e. higher fuel prices, cold starting, the 1980s debacle with GM diesel retrofit engines). -- Life is a journey; death is a given.
they have said the will soon offer a U.S. model.. but how soon not sure.. right now diesel prices cost more here then normal fuel.. where in Europe Diesel is cheaper for some reason :-/
I've heard rumors about a H-6 diesel but not 100% sure on that..
The tagline is not deceiving because the pictures shown are the Turbo Diesel engine that was displayed at the geneva auto show.
