Plus, I know a lot of parents who always have to rush home to get their kids and if the trains and delayed or running late, then this will give them a chance to call up and make alternate arrangements. | |

| Re: DC That is true and it has been that way for a decade, but in the T, albeit a small part of it, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile customers all have access. I do not advocate talking on cell phones on the train as there is enough noise from the trains, but it was nice that when I waiting for a train I could text to let people know I was on my way. | |

That was my first thought.. who the hell would use their laptop at Subway? Nobody uses it at McDonalds where they offer wifi... nor have I seen any at BK where the wifi is free.
-----
Since this isnt about Subway, but about subways, I'm not sure I'd have my laptop out on a subway anyways. Too many lowlifes to cause trouble... that and annoying kids with their juiceboxes. Too many things could go wrong in that situation. -- Teamwork is a lot of people doing what I say. Who is Ron Paul? | |

That is the only subway I've ever been on and it was a little scary with a man with a knife waving it around at a little kid and then cutting his fingers and writing on the floor with his blood...
As you walk down into the subways, they have a number posted on the wall to call the subway police, but then no cell phones work in the tunnels or stations... | |

Subways are some of the most secure anywhere. I have ridden them several times, and NEVER seen any incidents, nor on the light rail or Metrolink. | | | | Re: All subways should have cell service have to disagree- ridden LA above ground twice and both times there were gang bangers exposing themselves to female riders. live in NYC and ride MTA daily and have never had any problem thanks to MTA cops who ride the trains. never saw anyone from sheriff's office when I was in LA. | |

That is all. | |

 | | Correction to 277 NYC subway stations The correct number of stations is in the 400+ range, while 277 sounds about right for the fully-underground stations. | |

1 edit | Wireless "T" I also saw that on the MBTA's website. Not that I don't already see enough people yakking away on their cellphones when riding the Red Line into Boston from Quincy/Braintree (which is above ground). So let's see, you'll lose service when the train descends into the tunnel to Andrew & regain it around Downtown Crossing. You'll get to keep it passed Charles/MGH (also surface) and lose it after crossing the Longfellow Bridge to the tunnel decent towards Kendall. I have Verizon, so I'll be sure to give that a try on my next trip! | |
