SunRocket Reviews Improve
After serious problems in the fall
by Karl Bode Wednesday 14-Dec-2005 tags: VoIP
Back in October, a series of Sunrocket outages and service disruptions had many customers considering other VoIP providers. The company's CEO promised improvement, and all indications from our users is that those promises were kept, even if hiccups remain. SunRocket is edging back up our good, bad & ugly review rankings, as our VoIP forum regulars discuss.

Pretty good

I have had Vonage (I still do) and now Sunrocket. I must say that Vonage has been rock solid.

Sunrocket has issues - annoying ones - like one time I tried to do a 3-way call. I called the first party, and did a flash hook, then I forgot the number I was going to call, so I flash hook again, and was not able to get back to the first party.

So I hung up the phone.

Whats amazing is that 10 minutes later, the first party WAS STILL ON THE PHONE WITH ME!!! Even though my phone was hung up. WEIRD!

And this morning I answered my Sunrocket phone... I could hear the other party but they could not hear me.

Sunrocket is still growing... and I'm ok with it, especially for the FREE router and phones.

SunRocket still at the bottom of the VOIP group

And what about the many threads from today, this week, this month posting negative issues about SunRocket in the VOIP forum?

This one from December 9, 2005 (this week), shows at least a dozen different people in many different states posting an SR outage within 24 hours.

»[SunRocket] Outgoing not working?

"All indications" are not that everything works as promised.

All these are current threads (are none of them "serious?"):

»[SunRocket] Billed for 411 calls that were never made?!
»[SunRocket] Outgoing Caller ID Not Working
»[SunRocket] Sunrocket Customer Service - Oh My
»[SunRocket] Incoming calls not working
»[SunRocket] Sunrocket Forwarding Problem
»[SunRocket] Better late than never?
»[SunRocket] SR still billed me 1 YEAR after I left

Can you wait a week after the last outage to say that SR has fixed all its issues?

Very slanted opinion there...

Look at the following link. You only post to the problem threads...becuase you think it gives you fuel to your fire...

At least there is a dialtone...

Rocketeers are quick to point out they have been meltdown, I mean upgrade, free for the most part since September. But there are a myriad of smaller little issues and outages that will really IMHO keep them from growing bigtime. They have a great feature set, when it works. They give you free phones, that you get to keep as a "reward" if you cancel the service. They now offer 15 month for $199, plus international allowances. One of the first things we learned in the restaurant business is to give away things to try to get people in the door when you really need them...

I would love to see what SR's retention is, and how many free phones/canceled accounts after a week or two they have....

What is indisputable is that broadvox and packetdirect still suck (as far as the ratings are concerned...)

on most systems, dialtone suggests that the phone's gonna work.

on SR, dialtone only means that the dialtone works.

it's just a tone. many times we have dialtone but calls still don't complete or arrive.

Re: At least there is a dialtone...

LOL. That is so true. A dialtone just isn't a dialtone anymore!!!

And just now I was talking to someone for about 30 minutes (tech support call to someone else) and we came CLOSE to solving the problem and Sunrocket decided that I should get disconnected and get a BUSY tone. NICE!

Sunrocket is like a little kid. Little Johnny. He's not good at everything but he's trying. Go Johnny! You can do it!

Give it a year or two.

I've been with them for a while now and can't complain too much. But I don't see the 15 month offer anywhere, is there a link?

That would figure. I found the same info on an Anandtech forum about 2 minutes ago.

No wonder

Its little wonder when you have such a dedicated group of sunshine pumpers who have commandeered the VoIP forum of this site and use it to promote the company they have a vested interest in.

"Sunshine Pumper"?

I haven't had a problem yet - guess that makes me a "sunshine pumper". Where do I go to sign up for my "vested interest"?

Of course you haven't. Their entire nationwide service could be down (like it has been several times in the past few months), and I'm sure your service would "never skip a beat."

I'm not sure who you think you're quoting with the "never skip a beat" line, but it wasn't me.

Sunshine pumper please...

Just because I have had very few problems here in minnesota doesnt mean im a pumper. Its cheap i have little issues, life is good and stop complaining if you have problems then leave the servace and not whine about them forever. Just like anything else in life its a choice.

No Complaints here!

I've had SunRocket for 4 months and never experenced an outage or had a dropped call. The price is right and the service has been awsome...... I think I'll stay a customer.
