Don't forget their non aggressive stance on EVERYTHING. I mean, how can you NOT hate a country that won't get off the bench when it comes to a friendly armed conflict between nation states?
And don't get me started on that damn "Swiss Miss". I took her out, bought her dinner, and drinks (a big hairy dog with a barrel around his neck brought us brandy) and what did I get?

Compressed air engines, one's french, the other Korean »www.mdi.lu/?newlang=eng »www.energine.com/
Wikipedia on the french one: »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_car Many ppl are thinking it's a scam, due to lack of product released since 1998. But apparently, the company has been audited by one of the highest engineering research dpt in France, and they concluded that it was based on a technology that works. Apparently, noone wants to invest in developping this technology... Too risky I suppose.
Oh well, when Hyundai releases it on a massive scale, then I guess European and American car manufacturers will just scream "now where the heck does that thing come from? Damn Koreans!" while making a loud "pop" when they get their head out of their behinds

I dont see the use of useing a blimp build more cell phone towers and put more fiber instead of sending it up and worrying about it eventually failing what if they send it up and it dont work? | A good experiment Glad someone is trying something that is different. It will be interesting to see if the negative posters so far are right or if it will be a Holy Grail in the Mountains of Switzerland, or if the truth lies in between. The theory is good, but what will be the real life aspect?
I like how Swisscom (the AT&T/Verizon/SB of Switzerland') is poo-pooing the idea. How many times have we heard that in the last 150 years (cars, computers, lights, etc)?
The only thing I see wrong "Transmitting on earth causes lots of radiation, because you have to penetrate countless buildings," Alavi says, arguing that phone connections are more reliable when transmitted from above because the signals are unobstructed by manmade or natural objects. is that many people are still in buildings when they use a cell phone. Now it has to go DOWN through the buildings. Of course, those who are truly mobile may benefit. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time.

| Re: A good experiment said by jmycknshk :and does anyone think about what this will do to planes in flight? Probably nothing. Remember that most aircraft are metal cages. Also, consider that most radars put out a very high power pulse (measured in kilowatts in aircraft transmitters and megawatts from ground stations) with no problems to the planes being painted. Also they fly over terrestrial TV/radio stations that broadcast 100's of kilowatts. -- I am not lost, I find myself every time. | |

| Re: Great Idea - Go Blimpband Good point. Geosync satellites are at ~35,000 kilometers above sea level, this one is about 21km so latencies shouldn't be unbearable (maybe even viable for VOIP or gaming). The only issue I'd worry about is whether the blimp could be adversely affected by wind and atmospheric conditions, given how low it is - how much would it take to get blown off course? -- "When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer 'Present' or 'Not guilty.'" -- Theodore Roosevelt | |

Not that many people in Switzerland live in the mountains, most of them live in the flat lands. Virtually every telephone line in Switzerland (95%) is able to get ADSL. So I think that this technology most likely won't be used that much for broadband, since everything is pretty well covered already.
