TIME dotCom has yet to decide if it will bid for a 3G license in Malaysia. TIME dotCom, an indirect unit of Khazanah Nasional, refused to comment on speculation that it could partner with a telco to bid for a license that would allow it to offer services like video calls. Industry regulator the Communications and Multimedia Commission (CMC) is planning to tender another two sets of 3G spectrums on August 22. CIMB Securities the brokerage unit of Commerce International Merchant Bankers in a research report said TIME dotCom is viewed as a potential partner for foreign telcos to bid for a 3G services license due to its ready infrastructure that allows faster rollout. The broker said its sources have predicted that Singapore's SingTel, MobileOne and Starhub, Hong Kong's Hutchison Telecom and UK's Vodafone would be among the companies eyeing new 3G spectrums in the country. CIMB believes their entry into Malaysia is very likely and considers this a "threat" to the existing telco 2G and 3G business in the country as very real. Full article
