T-Mobile: 21 Mbps In 2010 As carrier launches the first Motorola Android phone Tipped by tiger72 
Earlier this week we noted how T-Mobile's quickly playing catch up with 3G network coverage after a late start. The carrier this week also announced Motorola's first Android Phone (The Cliq) during which, T-Mobile's Chief Technology Officer Cole Brodman detailed further 3G rollout plans for 2009 and 2010. By the end of 2009, T-Mobile is not only planning to match ATT's 7.2mbps HSDPA rollout with its own, but intends on overtaking ATT with a 21mbps HSDPA rollout beginning in 2010. It's not clear when T-Mobile plans to officially make the jump to LTE, which AT&T says they'll start deploying in 2011. Combined with news that T-Mobile's European parent company Deutsche Telekom is planning on massive investments in the U.S., it appears that T-Mobile's suiting up for battle.

On 7.2 Mbps you will see around 4 - 5 Mbps. But anything really over 7 Mbps isn't really going to make much of a difference on a phone. | |

If you are using something like opera browser to do a speed test, its not accurate because the test is run on the web browsers servers not on the phone. | |

EDGE's theoretical maximum speed is 238.6kbps (see »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_D···volution). So you can't even get 750kbps on EDGE, let alone 750KBps.
HSDPA can do 750kbps pretty easily; I routinely see that. | |

Give us stupid high speed and cap the transfers so we can barely use it without running against the limit in the first 2 days of the month and you will lose. It's not that hard to grasp. C'mon T-Mobile. Stay focused and don't fall into the ATT/VZW/Sprint trap. Differentiate yourself in the marketplace and you'll get the business. Do what they do, and you'll get what they've got. A bunch of pissed off customers who can't wait for their contract to run so they can switch. Then when they land at a new carrier, they won't order the high-end data plan. Watch your big investment go *POOF*.

Or they might not cap, who knows? 21 mbps HSPA+ is a relatively efficient technology and T-Mobile now has some AWS spectrum to play with. | |
