On 7.2 Mbps you will see around 4 - 5 Mbps. But anything really over 7 Mbps isn't really going to make much of a difference on a phone.

| Re: 21? said by bender :i get around 5mbps most times on my g1 in chicago. No you don't. T-mobile uses 3.6 Mbps HSPA in all its markets. Which means the real world Max is around 2.5 Mbps if your lucky.
If you are using something like opera browser to do a speed test, its not accurate because the test is run on the web browsers servers not on the phone.

| Re: 21? Your speedtest program is broken.
EDGE's theoretical maximum speed is 238.6kbps (see »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_D···volution). So you can't even get 750kbps on EDGE, let alone 750KBps.
HSDPA can do 750kbps pretty easily; I routinely see that.

| I'm in NJ and I have the iphone 3GS, I'm not sure that 7.2 is even deployed here.
my best speeds came in at about 1500/360 which while not 3.6 or 7.2 in all honestly is not shabby for wireless internet
my average speed is more like 600/200 which is definately usable, but I do get the feeling that it might be able to do more if the backhaul wasn't congested

join:2005-04-18 Boca Raton, FL | 7.2 Mbps has yet to be deployed yet to the general customer. I have seen several 7.2 mbps speed tests, and they average 4 - 5 Mbps with some going just below 6 Mbps.

| Re: Big deal 21Mb/s would be great. Raise the caps too. Give us unlimited and charge reasonably and you got a winner. Give us stupid high speed and cap the transfers so we can barely use it without running against the limit in the first 2 days of the month and you will lose. It's not that hard to grasp. C'mon T-Mobile. Stay focused and don't fall into the ATT/VZW/Sprint trap. Differentiate yourself in the marketplace and you'll get the business. Do what they do, and you'll get what they've got. A bunch of pissed off customers who can't wait for their contract to run so they can switch. Then when they land at a new carrier, they won't order the high-end data plan. Watch your big investment go *POOF*. -- There is not a man in the country that can't make a living for himself and family. Or they might not cap, who knows? 21 mbps HSPA+ is a relatively efficient technology and T-Mobile now has some AWS spectrum to play with. | |
| | | MineGimme
@tmodns.net | It can be unlimited. If you're grandfathered in (like me) you get unlimited internet for 20$ a month. There is no cap on my account, I commonly hit 30-40 gigs transfer a month and have seen as high as 80.

@comcast.net | I cannot even get EDGE where I live. 2 miles south has 3g, its very annoying that tmobile hasnt even updated our towers to edge much less 3g and yet the small town below me has it.

@kanren.net | Crank it up. And put better browsers on the WinMo phones when you put 21 Mbs HSPA chips in them. PIE stinks at any speed.

Yeah but besides the HTC Touch Pro2 no device will run Skyfire via 3G on T-Mobile. I had the Shadow (1st gen) and I loved SkyFire.
