T-Mobile Combats Verizon Exclusive With New Google Pixel Deal

When Google recently unveiled its new line of Pixel smartphones, the company oddly only gave customers two options: buy the phone unlocked from Google, or buy the phone from Verizon as part of the kind of outdated exclusive arrangements the industry had been moving away from. Hoping to budge in on Verizon's action, T-Mobile today unveiled a new option for T-Mobile customers. According to T-Mobile, customers that buy the Pixel phone from Google and bring it to T-Mobile will get up to 50% back off the retail price ($325 in installments) when customers sign up for T-Mobile's T-Mobile ONE plans.

According to T-Mobile, customers that buy an unlocked Pixel from Google or anywhere else have to show proof of purchase via this validation site. Users will then see a $13.55 credit on their bill for 24 months.

“Don’t let the ‘exclusive’ advertisements fool you, the Pixel phone is tested and proven to be fantastic on our lightning fast network, and we want to help you get the best of both worlds!" T-Mobile CEO John Legere said of the offer.

"I’m a huge fan of what Google has done with the Pixel and now consumers can use it the way it should be used – with truly unlimited data on the fastest 4G LTE network in America!"

T-Mobile's latest T-Mobile ONE Plan offers users "unlimited" data with a few caveats: overall usage is throttled after 26 GB of consumption, and all video is throttled by default to 1.5 Mbps or 480p. Users that want full HD quality need to shell out $20 to $25 more per month.

More details on T-Mobile's latest promotion can be found in the full announcement.

Catch is you have to switch plans for this deal.. So it's a loss for those on the "Truly Unlimited" and other older plans... It's not about being "un-carrier" but being a carrier and getting people to switch to the plan that saves/makes them the most money (of course). New popular phone, they can't sell it, so they had to do something to stay in the picture so win win for them.
