| handset upgrade fee... Is basically a B.S. fee (administrative?)
Its almost as if you're being penalized to renew a contract.
There's no real reason for it - as you're already paying for the device and the service.
Eg. I can get (from AT&T) a Moto RAZR V3xx for an over priced amount of $129 (or less + pay for extra services). I can also go to CompUSA and pay a similar amount.. and not have to pay for $18 upgrade fee or be in a contract. | |

Maybe this will be the beginning of similar removals of BS fees from other carriers.... I can hope.

The $60 was TO BECOME a customer plus if you wanted to change your phone at the end of your contract they hit you AGAIN! The Network Add Fee is actually ACTIVATION with a fancy name. Who in their right minds charges a new customer $60 for activation! NOBODY! Cent Wireless deserves to go bankrupt with that. | |

I just called too and they credited back the upgrade fee they charged me the other day. WTG T-Mobile.
Times are tough for many of us and suddenly our priorities are shifting. T-Mobile works well for me and provides a great value for my personal needs out here in LA.
Hopefully other US carriers will do the noble thing and follow suit. They didn't mind copying eachother when raising SMS to .20 a pop. | |

| Good! It's been several months since I upgraded. But when I did I went into a T-Mobile Store, added T-Mobile@Home, purchased the necessary router, then got a new handset per my two year upgrade contract.
I was confused by the charge and even the initial customer service rep's I spoke to could not explain it to me.
Once someone explained what it was I was pissed and considered not renewing in the future.
I must say, other than this T-Mobile has been an excellent cellular company in my area for the past 5 years. | |

| Re: I'm on my third Well, you know how these carriers are. They treat different customers differently, and reps have a lot of leeway to waive fees (it seems). I used to wiggle out of the AT&T upgrade fee by being nice to the rep (or hanging up and calling back to get one in a good mood), and asking them to look at my good billing history.
AT&T doesn't charge upgrade fees for "Premier" customers, either. Here's a tip: to get on Premier with AT&T if you're not employed by a big company, try signing up using your college alumni email address (or your friend's). AT&T is way nicer to Premier customers. | |

For example net10 has a good deal ($.10 per minute no contract, no BS), but their service is limited to a small lineup of phones. This is my option, otherwise, I'd be buying a device to do VOIP over wifi, but I can't see outlaying $150-400 for such a device right now. Maybe when the technology matures a bit more, or unlimited cell phone voice goes below $50 a month *in my area*, which ever comes first. | |
