T-Mobile Gears Up For June 19 Phone Giveaway
'Every single phone in the store' free for one day?
by Karl Bode Thursday 10-Jun-2010 tags: business · consumers · wireless
Some leaked details have emerged that T-Mobile is preparing for a June effort to help the fourth-placed U.S. wireless carrier improve its fortunes. According to leaked scripts for two as-yet-unaired T-Mobile commercial spots, the company is planning to give away phones for free on June 19 -- assuming of course that you sign a long-term contract. The exact details of the giveaway aren't yet clear, though the Father's Day promotion does seem very broad -- the promotion insisting that T-Mobile will be giving away "every single handset in the store." We can only assume there will be some fine print (when isn't there?) that hopefully will be revealed in a week or two.

US Cellular did this here several months ago. I dont remember there being any TV ads though, just radio. Not sure how well it went.

Re: US Cellular

I wouldn't mind getting the HTC HD2 for free. I'd give up ATT for that.

I found the key to success but somebody changed the lock.

Fine print.

Every phone in our store is free!

With the deposit of 1 gonad at the door, the option to enslave your first born, and permission to give your dog the "business" log, deep, and hard.
Oh, and a 10 year contract....

Re: Fine print.

at least they aren't charging $10 for 1GB of data, yet
and still have their 1yr contracts, or better yet no contracts at all, available

I'm sure they'll start charging per GB as soon as it becomes possible to download a GB of data in a month's time on their network.

I think someone is on drugs, you can easily blow away 1GB of data on 3G in a months time.

And a prerequisite to blowing through 1GB of data on 3G is the availability of 3G.

Your humor/sarcasm detector is broken.

Hopefully I'll be able to achieve that soon. There is rumor that T-Mo 3g will be in my area by Q4 2010.

Free phone comes with no coverage, dropped calls, and the lovely cross-talk. I went through 2 years of T-Mobile hell with a company phone I was forced into. No thanks.

Hmm...this post reminds me of another...oh wait because it does.

There are so many times you can say "that company really sucked" before it just gets annoying. We get your point.

every phone ...

Every phone they happened to have on the shelves at opening?

yelled to the 16-deep crowd outside the door: Sorry folks the store is now empty. We've 4500 phones in the back room but that's not part of the store.

LOL ...or the infamous soon to be catch line... Yes its in stock but.... "Sorry that is not a phone its a smartphone so its not included in the promotion! ".

Read between the lines as we know the companies do, I agree with the post above a way to clear out old stock,(basic phones) that is.

Re: every phone ... no rainchecks...

That's incredibly true.

"The difference between a phone and smartphone is remarkable. Yet, we can still give it to you, if you purchase a required data plan and sign a four-year contract! Also, we'll take your house."

si senor

@verizon.net
no the store will be fully stocked and smartphones will be the same deal seeing that you purchase a 2-yr family plan.
