T-Mobile Hit With Nationwide Outage
Monday Night Issue Has Been Resolved, Says Company
by Karl Bode Tuesday 03-Jul-2012 tags: competition · business · wireless · bandwidth · trouble · consumers · TMobile · wireless
Several users have written in to note that T-Mobile suffered a several hour nationwide outage last night, the company's network being inaccessible for many between the hours of 6:00 and 9:30. The company has yet to give an explanation for the outage, but says that the majority of customers should be back to normal. "T-Mobile experienced a network data issue Monday night that affected service for some customers with a 3G or 4G device," T-Mobile said in a statement. "Some customers were not able to initiate a data session, or experienced intermittent data connectivity." T-Mobile is busy installing new equipment at 37,000 cell sites and refarming spectrum in order to launch LTE in 2013.

Out Longer Than Claimed

Data services were out until at least 4:00 a.m. Tuesday (7/3/12) here in the Southeast corner of Washington State.

Was flakey when it did return and did not lock in until my third power cycle. (Same with all 4 of my family's phones, at least 2 power cycles to resync.)

Usually if 3G dies it falls back to Edge, but not this time.

Re: Out Longer Than Claimed

It was out here too in Southeast LA. I didn't notice though until I left the house (and the Wi-Fi) and couldn't connect... It was still out at 11pm when I went to bed.

Re: Out Longer Than Claimed

Had the issue here in Southeastern PA last night. Phone kept showing the 3G icon but kept giving an error message stating "connection failed". Did not fall back to Edge connection until after 9:30 pm.

Data service seemed like it was restored here back at 10:30 pm or so. Outage was too long without getting some sort of text notification from T-Mobile. They already know who has 3G (or pseudo 4G) capable phones.

Re: no issues here

NO issues here in the far south burbs of Chicago, however I was only on T-mobile towers between 12 noon and around 6-7pm yesterday. Out visiting family for the rest of the evening so I was roaming on an ATT tower for the remainder of the outage, So I had no (cellular) data anyway.

I along with others can't complain, one outage ( data only none the less) in how long VS. Verizon's numerous outages since deploying LTE. I still think were ahead in that department. When TMO deploys LTE then we can see how the outages stack up.

Re: no issues here

@buddahbless -- I have to agree with you regarding the reliability of the T-Mobile Network.

When I was with AT&T/Cingular/AT&T outages were weekly and according to folks I know still are, with Verizon and Sprint running a close second to worst.

That explains it.

I did a factory reset on my phone because it was just too clogged, and data was flakey as could be after that. I thought I'd done something wrong. I defaulted it again and the problem cleared up a little while later. Interesting coincidence.

no data

woke up this morning to find the phone had no data connection at all, it had regular connection for phone operation.
no indicator for 3G/2G/EDGE.
simply cycled "flight mode" and its back to 3G.
i should have gone in the service menu and taken a detailed look at the status and log before i cycled it.

Does it matter....

Since the 10 people on T-Mobile were having dinner/watching TV during that time, nobody noticed.

Sure seems to matter enough that YOU bothered posting about it...

AT&T down...Northeast Washington state

AT&T went down (voice, text and data) Sunday at around 1pm. I am in Ferry County. It still is not back on...they seem unaware of the problem, as everyone who calls to inform them is informed that there is no problem on record and to restart their phones....
