Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile unit chief executive Rene Obermann said he has no plans to sell its US unit in an interview to appear in this Sunday's Euro am Sonntag.

'To examine all offers is part of the duty of any management board member,' Obermann told the magazine. 'But let me make a very clear statement: T-Mobile USA is and remains an integral part of our strategy.'

Obermann also said he wants to introduce third generation UMTS mult-media services in the US at an unspecified future date.

"Personally I think introducing 3G mobile services in the US is an important addition to our operations," Obermann said.

Euro am Sonntag wrote that there will be an auction of UMTS frequencies in the US in the spring of 2006.

However, the magazine added that Deutsche Telekom had not yet made a decision on whether or not to invest in a 3G communications network for its US business.

T-Mobile will report second quarter earnings on August 11.

Who'd buy it?

Hmm, let's see...Other carries that have GSM service that could afford to purchase T-Mo

Cingular...

Which would allow Cingular to jack up the prices even more...Hmm, we're doomed. Doomed I say!

I would be very suprised if cingular made a move on t-mobile. And even more suprised if the govt would allow it.

I know it would never slide...As it is, I think two GSM providers is not enough. It cuts down on competition.

I'd love to see a third party/parties own/manage all the towers in United States and have the providers pay for access to a particular tower. This way, they have to compete on something else besides coverage. If they provide lousy customer service, then they wouldn't have enough customers to pay for tower access.
