T-Mobile Now Offers HSPA+ In 50 Markets Unveils new launch cities, upgraded HSPA+ USB modem Wednesday Jul 21 2010 09:10 EDT Tipped by Gbcue As rumors had suggested, T-Mobile this week is launching faster HSPA+ upgrades in 24 new markets, including Austin, Baltimore, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Kansas City, St. Louis, Milwaukee and many other large markets (hit their release for the full list). With these new launches, T-Mobile says they now offer the faster service in fifty markets nationwide, reaching roughly 85 million Americans. The service is theoretically capable of 21 Mbps downstream, but users should see speeds somewhere closer to 10 Mbps. T-Mobile hopes to reach about 185 million subscribers with the faster technology by the end of the year. T-Mobile today also unveiled their new, swiveling and HSPA+ ready webConnect Rocket 2.0 USB Laptop Stick. |

Where's the stick?I can't find the Rocket 2.0 on T-Mo's website yet. Also, is the new Rocket quad-band HSPA+ like the old one was?
Lastly, I hear T-Mo is gunning for 185 million customers covered by HSPA+ by the end of the year, not just 100 million.

Maybe because the smaller cities are easier to cover? ie, less technical effort required. Large complex cities *OF COURSE* require more time, and thusly, haven't been lit up with HSPA+. As you can see, not even San Francisco, or the Bay Area has been lit up as well, and it's a huge area.

What happened to Louisville, KY????Last notice I saw on the HSPA+ had Louisville, KY listed but I do not see it now!!
Well T-Mobile you have just made my decision to switch final. I was thinking of staying but I am moving my service away since I can't rely on a good Android based phone upgrade and a faster network.

I just started with 3G service on the 15th when I bought my Vibrant. Had a 1st Gen iPhone I've been using the last 2 years so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Re: In MilwaukeeThe Vibrant isn't capable of HSPA+. It's max theoretical speed is 7.2 Mbps. So you're pretty much getting the fastest of what your phone is capable of.

It really is fastI had a chance to try this out while staying in Long Beach over the weekend. I have to say, this service really is fast. I averaged 4mb/s downloading thru Usenet. If this becomes available in AZ, I may consider switching over to T-Mobile. I am tired of waiting on Clear.

Re: phonesHSPA+ is merely a SW upgrade to the existing 3G network (although it is different HW for the phones). The faster speed really comes from the physical fiber optic network which TMO is installing to the towers before turning on the HSPA+. This fiber optic network will benefit everyone on TMO's 3G network, regardless of whether you are using a HSPA or HSPA+ device. Without the fiber network, download speeds max out around 1.2 Mbps. With the fiber network you will see speeds up to 7 Mbps with HSPA and 10 Mbps with HSPA+, and HSPA+ speeds will continue to increase as the fiber network is upgraded.
