I doubt T Mobile would pull this here in the U.S with the competition they have.

And if you read the specs on this new phone, whoever buys it, is pretty much a moron. With the Tegra2 powered phones shown at CES its only a matter of time before T Mobile gets one. This 21mbps capable Vibrant its specs are fucking old school, and a sad attempt really. Its sad to think that clueless people will be buying this on contract when it lands because its "new" when Tegra2 phones will be hitting shortly after, and they won't be able to upgrade because their stuck in a contract lol.
Thank goodness I'm not in a contract and I actually do my homework before I buy.

| | | Re: Stupid. It doesn't make them stupid because they don't care about all the specs that you care about. They just want a phone and they're not worried about the specs and latest processors, internet speeds, operating systems, etc... Stop assuming that everyone else should think like you. | |

You sir are probably one of them.
It makes better financial sense to just wait till the Tegra2 powered phones to come out.
But hey..if you like wasting money go ahead, more power to ya!

You are a lost cause. Not really, you didn't fully understand what was going on in the first place. You're complaining about the phone specs being behind other phones and saying that the ones who buy it will be stupid for doing so. I said that everyone is not going be as concerned with those specs. Phones are bought more as fashion accessories than for their insides. Yeah the tech talk looks good on paper but most people are buying them for ease of use and how cool they look. Business and marketing.
|
| | | | | | | | Re: Stupid. You're absolutely correct tdouglas22. Infact, those who want a good price on the latest and greatest are doomed to the choices of: 1) buying at full price and not having a 2 year contract; 2) buying a subsidized phone and hanging on for 2 years (up to 3 years in Canada); 3) bailing out before the contract is up and paying the ETF (my option of choice LOL). Nowadays, no matter how hot and advanced you think your device is.....just wait a minute and it will seem obsolete. Some folks have no problem sticking out the 2 (or 3 ) years and what is an absolutely "to die for" feature on a phone for one person may not make a difference to others. We are not clones after all! I look at my history: Kyocera 6035 for 4 years (OMG) to Treo 600 for 2 years to Treo 650 for (1 year) to HTC 8525 (paid full price) for 10 months to HTC Tilt (8925) (15 months (paid ETF) to Blackberry Storm (piece of crap) 10 months to Blackberry Storm 2 (paid full price to escape using the Storm 1 but eventually paid ETF on Storm 1) for 5 months to HTC EVO 4G (on launch day.....7 months and counting!). I want to see if I can resist the next "greatest" new device and its 15 minutes, days or weeks of fame. I still love the EVO and now that it's rooted, love it even more! | |

| Galaxy S vibrant I have the vibrant with the nero 4.1 custom rom flashed on it. Wonder if I will be able to get 4G when and if its ever available here. I have seen the network type on HSDPA quite often and when I am in an open area have seen downstream speeds at about 5.83mbps and about 1.6 mbps up. | |

The Vibrant is hardware limited to 7.2mbps down, and I believe 2mbps up. No amount of software will be able to circumvent the hardware limitation of the chipset. -- "What makes us omniscient? | Re: Galaxy S vibrant Thats not true, I have had it do a lot more than 7.2mbps. I have had about steady 8 to 9 mbps using an ftp server app and downloading from the phone through my wifi. I have had another speedtest burst up to 18mbps and level off at 15 mbps. This is just the only one I have a screenshot saved on my site of.

| | | | | | | Re: Galaxy S vibrant I hope that the "wifi" is due to the fact that he is using "wireless tether" program for rooted android PDAs or a mobile hotspot and tethering to his computer (ie. his computer is connected to his 3G Vibrant via wifi and the speed test is done on the computer). So it would be a measure of his HSPA 3G. If so, I love the ping times and upload speeds too. With my laptop connected to my EVO 4G (by wireless tether) I have never passed 11mbps down and like 1mbps up but pings are 100ms or slower.
Whoops I stand corrected (upon reading closely).
