T-Mobile Still Struggling to Retain Postpaid Customers
Though They Insist LTE Build is Well Underway
T-Mobile's latest quarterly earnings (pdf) indicates that T-Mobile continues to struggle. The company added 160,000 net wireless customers overall, but lost 492,000 valuable post-paid wireless subscribers during the third quarter. As a result, T-Mobile posted a 15.2 percent lower profit than this time last year. T-Mobile's fortunes on the prepaid front continued to be a positive for the company, the carrier adding 365,000 prepaid customers for the third quarter, up 44% from one year earlier. T-Mobile posted a loss of $7.8 billion for the quarter, in large part thanks to a one-time hit incurred by their acquisition of MetroPCS. On a positive note, T-Mobile continues to insist that their deployment of LTE services is on schedule for a 2013 launch.
