T-Mobile Talks iPhone Support, LTE
1900 MHz Upgrades Will Bring iPhone Support
by Karl Bode 12:40PM Tuesday May 08 2012
For years users could use their unlocked iPhones on T-Mobile's network, though they'd be relegated to slower EDGE network speeds. Speaking at the CTIA trade show this week, T-Mobile stated the company's network will be compatible with the iPhone later this year -- even if T-Mobile isn't directly selling the device. In an announced update about their upcoming LTE and HSPA+ network plans, the company stated that they're using Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks to help with their upcoming LTE build. They also note that they'll be pushing out HSPA+ in the 1900 MHz band, which will allow iPhones to use faster speeds:

As part of the company’s network modernization effort, T-Mobile also plans to launch 4G HSPA+ service in the 1900 MHz band in a large number of markets by the end of the year. Network modernization trials have shown up to a 33 percent increase in HSPA+ data speeds as well as improved in-building coverage. Rolling out 4G HSPA+ services in the 1900 MHz band will also provide customers with the ability to use a broader range of devices, including the iPhone, on T-Mobile’s 4G network.
T-Mobile says that thanks in part to the spectrum gained from the botched AT&T deal, they should be able to offer LTE service in roughly 75 percent of its top 25 markets.
