T-Mobile 'Uncarrier 8.0': Roll Over Data Allotments

T-Mobile this morning unveiled their latest "Uncarrier" press salvo, announcing that the company will now be offering customers roll over data. According to a company announcement, both new and existing T-Mobile customers will be given what T-Mobile's calling a "Data Stash," or a data allotment where they can store unused data at the end of each month.

T-Mobile says this Data Stash is available for new and existing Simple Choice customers with at least a 3GB smartphone plan or 1GB tablet plan.

T-Mobile was actually beaten to the punch on this front by Southern wireless operator C Spire, who announced a similar initiative earlier this month (which is why T-Mobile's press release is careful to state they're the first "national" carrier to adopt this idea).

In T-Mobile's implementation, data stored in Data Stash will remain usable for one year past the date of storage. The company says that every customer that's eligible for the program will be given 10 GB of bandwidth in their Data Stash, for free. The feature is scheduled to arrive January 1.

"Can you imagine your gas station siphoning unused gas from your car each month? The US wireless industry is even worse," T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a statement. "That data is rightfully yours,” added Legere. "And, we’re putting an end to this appalling industry practice today. With Data Stash, when you buy additional high-speed data, there’s no need to lose what you don’t use."

Leading the way...

T-Mobile continues to turn those screws on the dinosaurs. Feeling that "churn burn" AT&T/Verizon? Good.
