| Pricing is nice; no 4g? The price is identical to compete with Wal-Mart's StraightTalk plan of unlimited everything for $45 a month.
The honesty of telling users they may be prioritized (dropped/throttled) when there is congestion is refreshing. I think the policy is the same for StraightTalk, but users aren't told about it.
Is the service really limited to their 3g network (not their "4g" version)?
|
| | | Re: Pricing is nice; no 4g? There is 4G on their $45/month plan, is 5GB of 4G speed and after that will be throttled down to edge. GoSmart is the only one so far to offer that high cap and second MVNO is Solavei with 4GB cap. | |

| Wrong, their is 3G on their $45 plan, connections are throttled to around 900kbps, though you'll still be connected to HSPA or HSPA+ if you check the details on the website it clarifies that high-speed is 3G, the $35 plan is only 2G.
In my opinion the plans are worthless, unless you really stream a lot of music, video streaming can be problematic at 3G speeds, Solavei 4 GB for $49 is the best in my opinion, and I'd even take straight talk's ~2GB over these plans, they just aren't compelling.
For a prepaid carrier, they are priced too high, though I understand why, they are opening retail stores, too much overhead for prepaid. They also don't have the roaming of Solavei, which roams pretty much where normal postpaid t-mobile roams, that's a deal breaker, on t-mobile you really should have roaming.

| | | | GoSmart isn't really an MVNO- it's just T-Mobile using another brand- such as Virgin Mobile USA and Boost- they're no longer MVNOs just prepaid brands. | |
|
| | | | | Re: Pricing is nice; no 4g? Yes I didn't really claim they were, though I made have worded it wrong, the point I was trying to make is that they compete with mvno's and as such their prices are too high for too little. | |

| | | straightalk does not have unlimited data included for $35/month. some people are fine with 2G speeds, including many people who have very high end phones, they may do all heavy usage on wifi but what to make sure they get things like email notifications all the time with out having to worry they hit the cap and have no more data until the next month. | |

It may be identical, but the opportunity to buy it from TMobile, without involving a Walmart or StraightTalk is a huge win.
The ambiguity of ST's usage policy kills their potential. I take no issue with limits, but they need be spelled out clearly.

| | | | Re: Pricing is nice; no 4g? They do if you read their TOS. But that is a huge problem today. People do NOT read their TOS/AUPs. If they did, they would find out a LOT about a service/product before they purchased it. | |

| | | elray join:2000-12-16 Santa Monica, CA | Re: Pricing is nice; no 4g? Most TOS/AUP are in legalese, not simple language.
No one should expect a Walmart customer or other ordinary consumer to read them comprehensively.

| | is it really congestion based ? i wonder if this is really congestion based priority in that if there is excess capacity everything goes as fast as the network can handle. at l;east that is what i would consider congestion based throttling/prioritizing.
what i suspect though is that they will be slowing down users based on there usage patterns regardless of current network conditions. if this is the case they should really make the formula they use public so potential customers can make an educated decision on what brand to go with.
i would like them to publicize that so many MB in so much time slows the connection to such a speed since that is how throttling usually works.

| | | Re: is it really congestion based ? I have been using gosmart for about a month now and I get 1Mb up and 1 Mb down which is just fine for phone good enought for audio and video streaming. The only problem for me is MMS cannot get working and tech support seems useless they just keep closing trouble tickets without fixing the problem. They try to blame on the phone but I have tried three different phones and none seem to work. | |

| | | | you always needs to manually edit APN's to get working MMS on MVNO's. how you do this depends on your phone, but will never be an automatic thing.
you will never have much luck getting this fixed through a CS agent. best option is do your own research(forums are your friend) or find a small shop thats unlocks and flashes phones to get help with proper APN settings.

I have edited my mvno's on all the phones on one phone it was working in the evening the next day it didn't and the phone was never changed or turned off. GoSmart is having difficulties getting MMS working properly and they have admitted so.

| | Looks interesting The pricing actually beats the Net10 setup that I have now. I need to find a (somewhat) definitive list of compatible BYO phones before I start considering it in earnest, though. | |

winsyrstrifeRiver City BouncePremium join:2002-04-30 Brooklyn, NY | Using $30 Walmart plan 100 minutes, unlimited text, 5GB of 4G data. Over the past 4 months I've been watching my usage, out of curiosity. With Wifi, I'm at about 60MB, if even. For the past 2 months I've been intentionally disabling WiFi, to force all traffic to 4G. I'm averaging about 260 MB, and that's with pushing app updates over 4G. My traffic alone, I might never break 100 MB.
The featured plan sounds nice, since I'd have more voice minutes, but it looks like data takes the hit instead (3G). -- "Suddenly everything is fainting, falling from a broken ladder's rung. The Simple Mobile sounds like a good option. I'll take it into consideration. I'm trying to remain loyal to T-Mobile as long as possible. The next plan in T-Mobile prepaid is $50 and 50MB of data. I need an in-between.
Since Simple Mobile is a T-Mobile reseller, I suppose it's the same as being a T-Mobile customer. -- "Suddenly everything is fainting, falling from a broken ladder's rung. | I'm on Simple Mobile's $50 4G plan after porting away from Sprint. I've never done T-Mobile before but it seems to use the same network and when you setup the APN on your phone, it points to T-Mobile in one of the parameters.
I might be a happier camper than most since Sprint is an utter piece of shit in NYC, but web access on Simple is very fast. I never miss a call and text messaging just works. And if you use a rooted phone, you can tether or do wifi hotspot to your heart's content for free, even though Simple states on their site that it is not allowed.

japPremium join:2003-08-10 038xx | No roaming = StaySmart by GoingNowhere This month marks my 1st anniversary with T-Mo on their $30/mo flat cost for 1500mins voice/text (each in or out msg = 1min) + 3MB data + national roaming. Usage is clustered in the 900-1200 mins range with one month of the last eleven at 1390 and three months sub 900. I don't use data and text is disabled at the net level = voice only for me.
Would have liked to switched to GoSmart at $30 but the no roam = stay with what I have.

| | Best MVNO Solavei is best $49 for 4gig of true 4G data. I get usually 10-15mbit. Also Solavei is only MVNO with full data roaming (not just voice roaming). I roamed on AT&T HSPA and actually got 4mbit speed. I don't even think T-Mobile direct post-paid gets that. | |
|
| | | Re: Best MVNO I was actually just looking at their TOS. They actually ALLOW tethering. Impressive. I didn't realize they roam on AT&T until you mentioned it. It's the best deal by far really. My mom will be switching to it in a couple of weeks.
I'm on the $30 T-Mobile plan which is still cheaper for me for the time being since I don't use more than 200min overage each month. I may go over by 100min at the most which makes my total bill $40.

| retread this is a retread of what Sprint's been failing at for at least 7 years.. boost mobile, virgin mobile, straight talk, net10, etc... a bad deal is a bad deal is a bad deal, even if you put an apple logo on it & sprinkle diamonds on top it's still a bad wireless deal. | |

| | gosmart info I have gosmart. And their 4g is capped at 1mbps. And before when I had tmobile, the same location was getting 4mbps. After you use up the 5GB, they will drop you to 100kbps ish.. | |

| | Check the Maps for Coverage If you are considering moving from T-Mobile post/prepaid to this offering, you really need to compare the coverage as the networks are NOT the same. GoSmart has a LOT of gaps in my area. | |
