The Cleveland Browns Vs. Sprint's 5GB Bandwidth Cap
Sprint signs $500 million NFL deal to broadcast games via EVDO...
While other sports leagues have extensively embraced online video, the NFL has traditionally been stingy about their content, unless you're really willing to pony up the cash. As part of a five year, $500 million deal with the NFL, Sprint tonight will be the first wireless broadband company to deliver a live NFL game to their EVDO broadband customers, according to the Wall Street Journal. Just like the deal Verizon struck with the NFL several years ago, the only games being broadcast will come from the NFL network. Just remember that Sprint has a 5GB per month cap (300MB/month while off-network roaming).

Get ready for $$$ charges

That 5 gigs is going to go VERY VERY quickly..Sprint is going to rake in some serious bank in overages.

Does sprint charge for overages? I thought they just cut you off.
Either way I don't get why I can't connect to Sprint TV when I'm connected via wifi. Seems like it would save on bandwidth.

Apparently Sprint thinks they can make at least 100 million a year off of this...i think this will be Sprints version of the Howard Stearn contract with Sirius.

NFL

Sprint started advertising this a couple weeks ago here in Columbus. I could swear they said you could watch EVERY NFL game....maybe it said every NFL Network game. Big difference and a bummer.

The confusion is probably because they are offering Live Audio for every NFL regular season game but video is only for NFL Network games and if it matters (talk about cap busting) the NFL Network 24/7.

why does the NFL do these deals with Sprint?

Sprint is a DISTANT 3rd when it comes to customers base. Does Sprint of the NFL actualy think this will drive custoemrs to Sprint? Sorry considering I can't even get Spint let alone 3g or EVDO or whatever they use here I couldn't swicth to Sprint if I wanted. I shouldn't suprise me considering the NFL deals with DirecTv which has 1/5 the customers of cable.

Because Sprint paid them money. It's pretty simple to understand really.

The NFL likes to maintain the exclusivity of its content and choosing Sprint is probably much the same as their exclusive contract with DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket.

Yes I understand this. The NFL is flat out lying when it says it does this stuff for the fans because if they wanted to reach teh MOST fans they wouldn't have these deals. chances are Sprint wil be out of business before this deal gets to it final year. I guess the NL doesn't know this.

Does it Count Against Usage?

Since this is a walled application, does this really count against your data usage?

Smart phones excluded

The best is if you have a smart phone, I have an HTC mogul PPC6800 model, and the NFL content/app isnt available for my model phone apparently I'll get a text when it is available. So I can do so much on my phone surf the web, email etc, but cant get the NFL stuff.

Re: Smart phones excluded

Yeah I have the HTC Touch and for some reason I can't get it either. Total stupidity. I dont understand how that works? These are all Windows Mobile devices, how hard is it to make an app that does the same thing?

NFL

If you have a Sprint phone with an unlimited data plan there is no charge and no 5GB per month cap on data.
Let's get the facts straight here.

There is a unique NFL app you have to download to watch the
NFL games. It's not available on the NFL channel that's on
Sprint TV now.

Re: NFL

You better do your research about monthly 5GB caps before you go posting.

So if I hook up a robot to press the buttons on the phone and play the same video, streaming over EVDO, from Sprint's Vcast clone, and have the phone be playing 24/7/31 days, I won't get in trouble?

Bandwidth

I think they are having bandwidth issues as when I try to connect to the the NFL channel I usual get error 7005. When I am able to connect the stream keeps buffering and the picture is more or less unviewible. Other Sprint TV stations work fine as does streaming from a slingbox.

The game appears to be a few minutes ahead on the phone compared to FIOS.
