The SunRocket TeleBlender
TeleBlend (SunRocket) VoIP and Prexar Mobile (Amp'd)?
by Karl Bode Friday 03-Aug-2007 tags: business · trouble · VoIP
What honeymoon period there was between SunRocket customers and the company they're being steered toward is apparently over. Users in our forums lament the service and answers they're getting from TeleBlend, who paid SunRocket's liquidators for the title of "outstanding replacement service" and purchased "certain limited strategic assets" of the company to help make migration easier.

Approximately 50,000 of SunRocket's 200,000 customers have migrated to TeleBlend. TeleBlend was created by United Systems Access Telecom (USA Telephone) with the sole purpose of gobbling up SunRocket customers. USA Telephone (via their MVNO Prexar Mobile) also recently gobbled up the bankrupt Amp'd Mobile (there's a winning combination for you).

USATelephone CEO Bill Fogg did stop by our forums to answer customer questions, but users weren't particularly impressed with the answers given. "The new 8/5 cut-off is quickly approaching and Teleblend has told us exactly nothing," complains one user. Another VoIP refugee has this to say:

"After I've signed up, I've opened an support issue asking when I could gain access to my voicemails or to have this service working. Two days later, I lost not only the voicemail but also my ability to call out... I've been phone less for about a week. They have not replied to my incident I've opened 7 days ago nor the most recent one that simply says, I have no service. The teleblend site allows me to log in, but I have no way of making any adjustments to my voip service. I can only pay and update my profile."

The unanswered questions, iffy service and muddy business history haven't gotten TeleBlend off to a great start. SunRocket customers who haven't decided on an alternative provider are still online, but that's only going to last into this weekend, according to a recent email from SunRocket's liquidators.

PAcket8?

A side question is: How many other SR customers migrated to the other preferred service, Packet8?

I went over to ViaTalk, it took them 14 days to port my number but I had a temp number up and working withing 30 minutes of placing my order. Very smooth ride and so far.. no problems.

... and how many didn't go with Packet8 or TeleBend? I didn't go with either. Why would I trust the advice of SunRocket?

Instead I went to »/gbu, read the reviews, and chose the company that had the price/features I was comfortable with.

I had two lines with Sunrocket. One I ported to Vonage with little problem.

The other I ported to Packet8, also with little problem.

The Packet8 LNP (local number portability) transfer has not taken place. The Vonage LNP, done a few days earlier went smoothly.

I tried to move both numbers to Vonage at the same time, but the sales person could not handle it complexity. So, I am trying the Packet8 for the second line. The Packet8 equipment is very nice, a cordless phone with the VOIP works in the phone base (Uniden).

It has been relatively hassle free, but I have had to keep up with a lot of details.

I recently paid for both lines at $199 per line from Sunrocket. I am trying to get my money back with the help of my credit card company. It will take a few weeks, but hopefully I will get a refund for the 10 months that were not used.

I signed up with packet8 but after 2 weeks they still haven't shipped my device so I just canceled and went with Vonage. Vonage is sending their's next day so now I just need my number ported. Packet8 just can't ramp up to meet the demand, I guess. Maybe I'll try them next year.

Problems...

My wife's co-worker did this transition to TeleBlend. I was over to her house yesterday working on something else when she had to let us know that she can make outgoing calls, but everything coming in now goes to voicemail. Very strange since in the beginning of the 'move', voicemail was what was not working.

Packet8 FTW

Packet 8 has been super reliable for me, they've made me forget I'm using a VOIP type service. It's much better quality then old my pots line.

It just works!

Can anyone give me some advice as to which service to go with?
I currently have Sunrocket and got screwed $600 for 3 lines.

Be sure to contact your credit card company..and do it quickly. If you're within the allowed time frame, you can dispute this charge. Some are also apparently allowing people to go over the time frame but doing so on a prorated basis.

As far as a provider, personally I use Vonage and am happy with them. AT&T and Verizon also seem to offer an attractively priced voip package now.

Personally, i'd stay away from these ultra low priced providers. They might very well be just another SR waiting to happen.

I've heard bad things about Verizon's VoIP offering, I would advise people to stay away.

I'm still on POTS, as I use my cell phone as my primary phone....

I've mentioned them numerous times in a positive light in this regard. I'm surprised that someone who stalks my posts and comments as much as you do didn't know that.

Anyways......

I am with ViaTalk, i love their service. It's pretty reliable, alot of features. Packet 8 is alright. I have heard faxing is not well because they use the G.729 codec which I hear can be changed if you need to fax. But ViaTalk standard uses a lower compression codec.

No problems here w/ the Teleblend............

While I won't discount others' problems.......I am having none.

In fact service is as good or better than it ever was w/ SR and I've had zero problems since I signed on w/ TB.

Lucky?

Dunno.

(P.S. I can't comment on Int'l calls as I just don't make any)

Teleblend has been OK for me, I am using it along side with ViaTalk. I use VT to call my family in Italy and a mix of Teleblend and VT for local.

Dunno if you were askin' me, but......yes......my VM is working great! (I just have to use the SR site still if I wanna access it online).

And, no....none of my calls have gone directly to VM like some folks have.

Nope, wrong. Packet 8 uses G.729 for voice, very efficient 30 kbps and T.38 for fax, more reliable, 90 kbps. Packet 8 depends on business customers for it's revenues and residential benefits from industrial-strength systems.
As of yesterday I can not make outgoing calls to any landline phones, but I can call cell phones. Incoming calls are okay just wish I could get some help on the outgoing call problem

I switched to Lingo. Porting initiated 7/19 and completed 7/26. If your numbers are with Level 3 it would take only a week to port, but Global Crossing and others may take longer.

I am happy so far with ViaTalk. I also think "VoIP.com" could be a good choice if you are looking for a good, full featured, low price provider. Help at ViaTalk can take a while right now since they were never prepared for the thousands of Sunburned Rocketeers who suddenly came flying over to their service.

As far as porting over more than one SR number to any service, and getting free additional virtual numbers, I think you may be out of luck. ViaTalk cust. service told me that the SunRocket Signature (virtual) numbers are owned by SunRocket (or what is left of them) and are not available for any other service to port. In hours of searching, I also have not found any similar service that provides free virtual numbers as SunRocket did.

Seems to me that your only alternatives are to choose a good service. Let them port your primary number. Purchase additional virtual numbers, and let them assign there own new numbers for them.

Hope things go smoothly!

Good Luck.

Re: HELP

If you are looking for free virtual line then you should be looking at Vonics Digital.

I am going to try them out for $189.96 for 15 months of service plus they are giving free virtual phone number.

call your credit card company. They will issue you a credit. It may be temp or it may be permanent. But you'll likely get it.

BernieQueens

@verizon.net
I looked into several options before switching. Net2 phone is offering to give you up to 12 months free if you still have 12 months left on your service with sunrocket. They automatically give 3 months free and then you have to send them in proof ,how much sunrocket still owns you. If they still own you 9 more months you'll get that too.
If you have the inno media gizmo, you don't have to order a new device and save the activation and shipping charges.
The only problem right now is the porting of your number, The first few days that they offered the promotion the were able to port in 24 hrs. for SR customers .If your number is held by global crossing ,it will take longer,(up to 3 weeks) they are not cooperating with them. If your number is being held by Level 3. Your in luck. They can offer you a temporary number for $5 per month, pro rated ( in you only use the number for 2weeks ,you'll get back 1/2 your money) until you get your number.
Good luck

So a CEO with more money than brains walks up to the bar...

And he says, ya know, I think today I'm going to form a deadbeat company that gobbles up bankrupt deadbeat companies. I'll call it TeleBlend. It will be the epitomy of everything that is wrong with the telecom industry in one convienent package.

Went with TB, lost all service, no support, quit (cancelled credit card payment) and returned to Bell pots.
But, bought a MagicJack. Arrived today. Easy, easy installation, better voice quality than pots. It rocks and for $20/yr, who cares about tomorrow.

Maybe these stupid dummmies outght to be doing their own research and take the advice of the smart users of this board and stay away from these no name companies, and sign up with Packet8 or some other proven game player in the industry.

You can't complain when you don't know how to help yourself.

Re: Dummies

A little harsh but you have a point... people keep looking for bottom rung service and bottom rung service is what they are going to get. Sunrocket was crap from the start. Their call quality was good but they had no strategy to stay in business. Packet8 does. Yet some people never learn and so they are going to get burned again... Been VoIP happy since 2003.

I switched to Viatalk from Vonage. I wasn't having any problems with Vonage, I just wanted more features. Viatalk is great for the price and I do not see them going under because they are owned by Hostrocket. Vonage has the best overall quality. Viatalk's Voicemail leaves much to be desired.

Once again you all need to realize VONAGE is the best. Vonage has some of the best infrastructure out there. They actually do spend many and have EXPENSIVE STUFF. Trust me i know. All i can say is if you want great service go with Vonage. I have been with them for almost 3 years.

www.italkbb.com has a pretty good rate. they use a linksys TA, about $25/mo for canada, usa, europe, asia. packet8 is cheaper however, i think.

What are you talking about? Vonage has NO infrastructure. They lease everything they have 3rd party. They dump all of their revenue on advertising and outsource their customer service (English please). They do not control their own ATAs and have no engineers in house. They are nothing more than a virtual company waiting to fall because of the patented technology they have lifted from other people. Vonage will fall... It just may take some time for them to burn through the massive amounts of cash they have collected from unwise investors.

Attempted to sign up on Teleblend, rejected American Express Prepaid Card with $100 behind it. They are looking for control of your credit card account to charge whatever they want to your credit card. Given that I already lost over $150 with trusting Sunrocket why in heaven's name would I want to use anything less than a prepaid debiot card.

I called them six times, never got a real person always a hold que which hangs up on you. Looks like I am headed to Verizon Voice Wing which is about $60 more annually than the Teleblend which will probably go up in smoke like Sunrocket. I am done "trusting" these pompous start-ups who offer no customer service, no one to talk with and need a credit with an unlimited line.

Sounds like a Verizon sales plug... Why would you go with someone who offers fewer services for $60 more? Your whole argument does not make sense.

Not only that, he is claiming TeleBlend is out to "control" CC numbers to which I think he is implying "stealing" and doing what they want with the CC number. Ridiculous assumption

I can't win...I wanted to go to AT&T CallVantage, but they said they couldn't port numbers from SunRocket (even though it was an original AT&T number that I took to SunRocket). So I signed up with Packet8 the first night they were announced, because they were offering the quickest changeover. The next morning, TeleBlend was actually keeping the existing service active (so they said), so I signed up with them, and cancelled Packet8. My phone and all features kept working. A week later, Packet8 ported my number anyway, and I lost all my incoming calls. So since they had my number, I signed back up with them, and they promised to overnight my device. Six days (and four 2-hour phone calls later), they overnighted it. Worked great for a week - then yesterday at 5:30 pm, my number was ported back to SunRocket (all the calls show up on my old account there) or maybe it's to TeleBlend - who apparently have no clue what they're doing. So I've lost all my incoming calls again!!! Now I guerss I'll have to wait for Packet8 to port it back again.....(this sad story to be continued...I'm sure!!!)

P8 CS told me that about 20,000 SR customers made the switch. This was as of 8/10/07.

If the Teleblender got 50,000 converts and P8 got 20,000, where did the other 130,000 go?
