The World Cup Begins (To Gobble Up Bandwidth Caps) Traffic surges as the games begin... Friday Jun 11 2010 13:25 EDT It looks like there's going to be a number of ways to watch World Cup games streamed, including via ESPN 360 or less official means. If your ISP hasn't struck a deal with ESPN360 -- you can watch live streams of all 64 games at UnivisionFutbol.com -- assuming you don't mind commentary in Spanish. Streaming just one world cup match in high definition will eat up roughly 2.4GB, and there's about 64 games scheduled over the next month -- so obviously users in countries where ISPs cap the hell out of user connections are going to run into problems (oh hi, Canada). Akamai, which beefed up their networks ahead of the games, is already seeing their busiest demand for bandwidth since the inauguration of President Obama. |
