TAMPA, Fla. Aug. 12, 2004 — Pinellas County commissioners approved an evacuation Thursday of as many as 380,000 residents of coastal and low-lying areas in anticipation of Hurricane Charley coming ashore in the Tampa Bay area.
Commissioners unanimously approved the evacuation order, which was recommended by county emergency management officials. It will take effect at 6 p.m. Thursday.
I grew up in the Tampa Bay area and I hope your mom is in a safe place. If this thing comes through the Bay, it will be underwater. So Tampa has a lot of low lying areas that will be flooded.
I can just see Davis Island now. Depending on the storm surge (expecting 12-15feet), all you will see is rooftops. Bayshore will be underwater. Those million dollar homes are going to be in for a long day tomorrow.
