"You can't have a presidential nominee in an area where there is not cell coverage."

Hmmm...I guess we didn't have presidential campaigns prior to the mid-80's.

McCain is just posturing.

A few decades ago Conservatives, with the help of the Chicago school of economics (Friedmanites) reshaped traditional studies of what was called "Political Economics" (as espoused by Adam Smith and David Ricardo) into a purely mathematical endeavor. It became a "Theory of Everything." It could be applied to schools, wars, immigration. The world became simple when socio-political needs were subservient to black/white math.

It's the same belief system which had former Fed Chairman Greenspan arguing for deregulation of margin/leverage just a week before the LTCM crisis in '98. A crisis due to deregulation, and specifically the use of 18:1 leverage ratios outside any system of regulation. (Compare that to today's meltdown where big-name institutions used 30:1 ratios.).

McCain's just appealing to this relatively new Conservative belief system. Describe economic issues from a purely mathematical standpoint. Ignore how the affected businesses became what they are either through socially-created monopolies, or 30 years of government investment in the development of technologies like the Internet (under DARPA).

LOL

AT&T says - "I guarantee complaints, but there's no other way to deal with it short of building out more networks to give people the bandwidth they crave. There really are bandwidth hogs. "

Yes, AT&T - god forbid you build out your network.

Re: LOL

Ya, god forbid you use your iPhone properly..

Don't even think of using your data card. If you do, we'll nail you with heavy penalties.

I'm going to hate it when AT&T takes over Alltel here. I might just cancel my service all together and get a TracFone.

Re: LOL

Correct but Verizon had to sell off some area in order for the sale to go thru which then ATT purchased.

Vomit Comet

""Broadband is a great American success story, don't let anyone tell anyone tell you anything different," Esser said. "By the end of this year, approximately 95 percent of U.S. households will have access to broadband." - Cox spokeshole

I call BS on this. 95% my buttocks. Satellite isn't broadband, neither is Edge with a super low cap and high fees and pathetic speed, sorry.... You had to be dragged into the Internet revolution kicking and screaming by smaller independents ISP's and then you pat yourself on the back and tell the World how great your leadership has been, when you've crushed innovation, competition and even now are working hard to knee-cap the internet evolution. Damn sometimes I just want to puke!

This is one reason the FCC should set the bar high at defining broadband.... that would alone help take some of this "95% access to broadband, Mission accomplished" spin off everything.

Re: Vomit Comet

I was wondering when someone replied to that.

These ISPs congratulating themselves is like:

»baseballcrank.com/archives2/2005···_wro.php

Politicians using 13 million in katrina relief funds to build a museum celebrating the guys who caused the hurricane katrina disaster, the Amry Crops of engineers.

Which is basically like building a statue of a retard.

Agree Totally

Broadband in the US is a genuine success story. Without the government wasting (sadly not any anymore) taxpayer money, private industry was able to get most of the nation's households and businesses connected to the Internet via broadband.

Not bad indeed.
