4 edits | early termination SCAMs oh you mean like bell canada breaching a contract with me/my dad (thats 5 and i have none left with them LOL ), then admitting they were wrong then crediting my next bill back then stealing the cash off his credit card and stealing i might add 59$ more then they should have.
YEA lets NOT be a fan of early termination in fact i think if they change a contract they should be forced to pay YOU an EARLY termination fee.
YES that would cut down on the BS right lickity split and put some honesty back in the game , now wouldn't it. THIS is why they are slowly getting rid of them too many are saying this is unfair cause its one sided and if you want a service there is no ALTERNATIVE but to accept there BULLCRAP.
AND consumers ina capitalistic system do have a god given right to cheap , its called capitalism , where if you dont give me the service cheap i go elsewhere or SCREW IT NOT AT ALL. If they dont have a right to cheap then the workers in factories should be paid more and they should get tons a benefits too. WHY Not? Cause ti cant work that way for ever either. THIS is also why piracy even exists its not like a pirated pair a pants is or could be less quality its that levis wants to OVER CHARGE YOU 50$ for a pair a jeans that could cost you 15$ TO ME thats sick ugly and evil and takes 35$ out of the economy for other things. DO this with the essentials like food and such and whats left. yea scam scam scam. unless the so called 15$ maker of pirated levies can make a profit he aint doing it....makes ya wonder.
Monopolies in capitalism do just the opposite , they dont care about consumers one bit they overcharge gouge screw cheat lie and defraud all they can cause after all what can you do about it. THEN when its soo bad govt gets involved and either makes it worse or better ( rarely )
we no longer live in democracy when news agencies say free press is bad for it, execs get only broad band in a town, and you can just make ACTA like laws to get end runs around voters.
just prove you have a bran and do the math on the cost of a single KB of text via a smart phone versus using the internet and you can quickly see the real scam.

2 edits | Bill aims to limit wireless early termination fees Some what unrelated, but last week I received an email from Verizon informing me of a TOS update. It states:
said by Verizon :
If you are on a term plan and Verizon ceases offering service to your location prior to the end of your term commitment, you will not have to pay an Early Termination Fee Because I guess until now, they could charge you an ETF if THEY decided to cancel the service.
I've previously said we don't need more regulation, but after looking over an actual cell contract, I've come around. I understand the need for an ETF, when and only when the carrier is subsidising the phone. But lets do an actual cost ETF. The carrier can show what they actually paid for the handset, what you paid out of pocket, and charge the difference as an ETF. The only problem I see with that plan is keeping the carrier honest about the actual cost.

| Re: Bill aims to limit wireless early termination fees The other component is that ETF's should be amortized over the length of the contract. If you cancel after one month of service, sure - you pay the full ETF, but if you cancel at month 23 (out of 24), then the ETF should be pretty small.
Sprint started doing that . . . but ONLY for newer contracts. Another matter that probably needs regulatory attention.
Example: I'm on month 23 of 24 contract for a USB data card, but because I signed on a long time ago - before Sprint started amortizing the ETF over the length of the contract - if I canceled today, I still have to pay the FULL ETF.
One month and 2 days, Sprint . . . I AM counting.

ETFs are entirely optional fees that can be skipped or prevented if one doesn't feel like paying it. Get a prepaid phone or pay the full price of a phone and there will be no ETF.
Instead of going after a fee that only dings a few people who are too lazy to read the contracts that they sign, why not go after all the hidden "unfees" that are not taxes that get tacked onto your bill every month? I'd mandate that the advertised price of service is the price you pay, less any government-imposed taxes, just like any other purchase you make.
Even though this would mean the advertised price of service would increase, it would help people to better compare the prices of service and make a better informed decision about which cell provider to choose. -- Blagojevich / Madoff 2012!

| | Comcrap... Comcrap, ccast whatever you wanna call it needs to get its own ducks in a row before trying to be a content provider. I WILL dump them as soon as we figure out how to get our back bill with VZ paid off in full, had some family emergencies & fell behind, all ok now though, but VZ won't let us switch without paying the back bill.

Seriously, the biggest FAIL with broadband (at least in the states) is the lack of coverage. It should be EVERYWHERE you have a phone. Phone companies never stated, Hey, that 25 mile run to that shack won't be profitable (likely covered in other revenue and tariffs permitted by the government).
But I do see satisfaction in the faster connection having better uptime and speed than dialup/dsl. (oh that aging copper base)
