Wireless Data 1,00 Times Faster

(between microwaves and infrared light is what they meant). Above about 20 gHz the wavelength is so small that all the energy gets absorbed by water droplets. A thick gray cloud or a mild rain shower will block the transmissions.

There is no magic solution. All the suitable radio frequencies for portable digital comms are in the the UHF spectrum, from 300 MHz to 3,000 MHz. Below 300 MHz the antennas get big and noise goes up, above 3 gigaHertz low electrical efficiency makes battery life problematic.

Comcast spurns netflix

Comcast, content owners, and ISP's in general hate netflix. Why netflix expects to be able to bundle their business model on top of cable is beyond reason.

Content owners are just being stupid in this regard. Of course they did try to kill off the VCR back in the early 80's as it was going to increase piracy and kill off jobs and revenues.

ISPs are also being stupid. If not for video why do I need a hi-speed connection for? I might as well just have their $25 3 Mbps connection instead of the $55 connection I'm paying for. In fact why even have that? I can do all that basic stuff on my smartphone and since I'm already paying for a data plan on that I might as well use that. So if ISPs want to continue to be dumb they can lose my $700 a year. Multiply that by tens of millions of customers.

Raiders of the lost dark fiber

This looks like a good idea.

..not to mention the whole "bandwidth crisis" crap that could be averted by utilizing dark fiber. Oh, but wait! That would require to invest in their own networks! We can't have that!

Heck, I wouldn't mind a fiber between Billings and Miles City to set up a wireless broadband alternative.
