Time Warner Cable: 15,000 WiMax Users
Results 'Not Very Impressive' But 'Inconclusive,' Says CEO
by Karl Bode Friday 28-Jan-2011 tags: business · wireless · alternatives · consumers
Like Comcast, Time Warner Cable has partnered with Clearwire to offer consumers bundles of mobile wireless broadband service. When launched, pricing was rather high, though we have seen some efforts to implement three month introductory pricing. In their earnings report yesterday however Time Warner Cable noted that they have just 15,000 WiMax users at this point, something that disappoints the company. "We're trying different models, different products," says CEO Glenn Britt of wireless. "And to date, I would say our results are not very impressive and pretty inconclusive, so we're going to stick with it for a while." You'll recall of course the Clearwire partnership was a replacement for the cable industry's failed Pivot strategy, which involved offering resold Sprint wireless services.

Good luck TWC. Sad when Clearwire and other providers LTE roll-outs are outpacing their own network upgrades...

It isn't TWC's WiMax, it's Clears. Did you miss that in the article? And the reasons for the poor adoption are pardon the pun CLEAR. There are significant issues with Clear and sadly anyone reselling (or partnering with them) experiences the same issues.

TWC doesn't offer compelling price

TWC needs to offer a bundled cable/wireless package that is competitive with other services. They charge a premium to use WiMAX. They expect success with that?

the thing is

when you launch a product with the hopes of milking customers as top priority, you are left with 'less than impressive' results.

offer value and make money.

TWC sucks for Wimax

Three of the four reps I called didn't even know they had it. The "unlimited" 3G actually comes with a 3G cap and the one rep that did know they offered it was not knowledgeable. Cost was higher than Sprint and Clear. Don't even get a discount for being a business customer in fact cannot order unless you have a home account.

Stop wasting time on Wimax and just light up D3 for business customers (such as myself).

Time Warner Cable WIMAX Ads

They advertise a lot here in NY. Like on buses. Even whole subway trains are plastered with their banners ("Break free with 4G"). I've always been wondering who they think will sign up for this.

P.S. I use the the Rover Stick with a netbook for WIMAX 4G

I live in NYC too. This company love to milk customers but their power grab slowing will end with Verizon wiring the city with FIOS.
