Time Warner Cable Enables Hotspot 2.0 Across Wi-Fi Network
Time Warner Cable has announced that they've enabled Hotspot 2.0 functionality across the company's growing network of Wi-Fi hotspots, allowing Time Warner Cable customers to seamlessly log into those networks without entering usernames and passwords, or navigating login screens. According to a company press release, the new network option is available on nearly all of Time Warner Cable's 33,000+ Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Southern California, New York City, Austin, Charlotte, Kansas City, Myrtle Beach and Hawaii. While Boingo began tinkering with Hotspot 2.0 back in February at some airports, Time Warner Cable's implementation is now the largest Passpoint-enabled Wi-Fi network in the country to date.

I suddenly have the urge....

....to register "netwosk.com" right now. I feel like this is a technology word or company name that's going to be relevant in the future. Of course, some asshole prolly has it already for people who type "network.com" incorrectly.

these same hot spots are also...

....used by Comcast (and maybe other, "Cable Partners") In theory any user from any one of them can log in

TWC WiFi is shared with US. Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Comcast, and Cox Communications as CableWiFi. If you have an account with any of them you can use their independent WiFi systems or use the CableWiFi id. Once you register your device with your ISP, it will automatically be recognized by all the systems without the need to log in.

My experience

Passpoint seems to work a little better than the standard unsecured TWCWiFi SSIDs, once you get connected. I've only used it on a couple Mac laptops so far (where it shows up using 802.1X authentication; you use your TWC account creds to log in), but it's nice to have a secured connection while on the go (WPA2 is used, so traffic to the AP can't be seen by anyone except you). Speeds are decent. Not amazing, but decent. And coverage is quite good.

Re: My experience

can you move/roam seamlessly between AP's or does each require a fresh login?
is logout required? How does it handle dropped connections?

Re: My experience

Not sure about inter-AP roaming in a hot-handoff sense. The network does share the same SSID all the way across though, and if I auth at one location I'm good to go at all of them (no logout required).

I think they using Cisco equipment that support roaming. You should be fine while roaming around without having fresh login. it is depends on how they processed with setup.

Sure do wish...

TWC would add Hotspots to some of the former Insight areas. We've been TWC for a year now and still haven't seen any added in this area (Evansville Metro). I have a feeling not a whole lot will get done until TWC is able to finalize it's sale...
