1 edit | Mobile? I suspect we can expect the same fantastic service as we get with their other offerings, price increases, good technical support, my favorite for 2009 being the forced downgrade to their own TV software. The TV menu. I can't ever remember a Company raising prices for cable television and then forcing a download to a buggy piece of crap. They actually made everyone use bad software. There was no warning of this move so why would I as a consumer ever buy another product from them? I won't cause I can't trust that they won't do the same with this product.
So I presume we can expect the same for all their other products? Lock them into a service and screw them. I will not be buying any other services from them and apparently FIOS is a few months away... Bye bye.. | |

I would look at this as an either/or, not an "in addition to" type service. I know there are some road warriors, but I definitely can't see why anyone would look at this as a must have. We pay approx. $50/mo for our RR service, this would bump it 80+ for the lowest tier.
$100+ for internet, not to mention cable on top of that (another $50+/mo)

| | | | I'm not a road warrior, but I do enjoy taking day trips to various parts of the state. There have been many times where I would have liked to have internet access when out and about. Now I have never owned a laptop, but I do have two HP wifi enabled PDAs and an iPhone 3G. Upstate NY is not the wifi capitol of the world, and while the iPhone is really nice, surfing is a bit cumbersome. Next year I'm looking at getting my first laptop, and along with that an AirCard from Sprint.
I agree, RR Mobile really doesn't make sense. Most people will not have a mobile broadband account in addition to a regular broadband account, I may be the one exception though. I see no real advantage getting mobile broadband from TW considering it's just rebranded Clear and Sprint. The target market for these types of services are road warriors, business travelers and those out of reach of traditional broadband options. I'm guessing most business travelers have services through a corporate account with Verizon, AT&T or Sprint.
Internet and digital communications are my life, so I really have no problem spending and extra $60 a month on Sprint Mobile Broadband in addition to my Road Runner Turbo at home. Hell, the iPhone is just a cool toy and mobile internet device for me. I have a Nextel account with Sprint that I use as my real phone. So $110/month for two internet services is nothing when I'm paying $160/month for two cell phone services.
My ultimate goal here is to have three independent ways to access the internet, already got the home connection, I have the iPhone, just need to top it off of mobile broadband access.
I don't see Road Runner Mobile lasting much longer then the whole Pivot thing. If TW had their own wireless infrastructure I'd get my mobile broadband service through them when I get a laptop, but I'd rather just deal with Sprint directly. -- Don't Blame Me, I Voted For McCain Welcome to The SSA, The Socialist States of Amerika, Lead By Your Dictator, Hussein Obama Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, B.
