Time Warner Cable Launches Wi-Fi Portal, Cost Savings Calculator
Time Warner Cable this week announced that the company has launched a new portal for its broadband customers that lets them register their Wi-Fi devices, allowing them to auto-connect when a Time Warner Cable hotspot is in range. According to a blog post and press release, the company's new www.twcwifi.com portal will also show users how much money they're saving by using Wi-Fi instead of connecting to their company's cellular network.

TWC Peering

Does anyone know how Time Warner Cable peering compares to the other cable cos... is it as congested as Comcast? Curious if this will be a good alternative for AT&T Wireless.

Re: TWC Peering

There is no way to figure out congestion but here is who they peer with.

It would be too big of an investment. Plus, there are huge regions cable does not reach, where the POTS system does. And where there is a CO, its a lot easier for a telco company to put up a cell tower or two, and the cell companies lease each-others infrastructure.

For a new company to enter that market, with 4 major competitors (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon) and several smaller ones mostly leveraging off the infrastructure of the big 4, there isn't a lot of room to build a brand new network from scratch, and still make a profit.

I said this before, instead of Softbank, I wish Comcast, Time Warner and Cox would have came together and formed a co-op like they did for iNDemand and bought out Sprint. The cable companies had two previous failures with Sprint partnerships, Pivot Wireless and re-branded mobile wimax, but between the combined spectrum of Sprint and the cable companies, with the financial backing of the largest landbased ISPs in the country there could have a terrific outcome

Ohh I get it...

So now that TWC will deploy all these wi-fi AP's thus saving you from the data cap of your Cell provider. You can safely lower your data plan and pass those savings to TWC.

BRILLIANT!!!!!
