Time Warner Cable Tests Skinny Bundle
Anonymous sources tell Engadget that Time Warner Cable has started testing an Internet-only "skinny bundle" video service that the cable operator will be aiming at cord cutters. The report is skimpy on the details, outside of saying the service will first be offered to broadband-only Time Warner Cable customers in New York City. Pricing for the service seems relatively in line with other skinny bundle options we've seen:
quote:
On top of their internet service, customers can pick up a "Starter" TV package for an extra $10 per month. Another option that adds Showtime and Starz will be available for $20 per month, and for those who want all the usual channels but without a cable box, a Standard option with Showtime and Starz costs $50 per month.
So far this sounds very much like the TWC TV app that the company already offers subscribers -- it will simply feature a scaled-back channel lineup and won't require authentication. It's a curious time for Time Warner Cable to be testing much of anything, given that should the Charter acquisition be approved by regulators, existing Time Warner Cable services will be replaced anyway.

taxs and fees kill this

TWCable has been mailing me for months about this $10 offer - make it seem like I'm somehow "lucky" to qualify, and the reason I toss all the junk mail in the trash is because $10 is the foot they get in your door to charge you another $20 in taxes fees equipment leases for little more than basic OTA stations cabletv. I would rather stick with several tax free one time purchase streaming based devices and subscriptions, then give twcable an excuse to keep adding mystery charges to my bill. another reason I personally prefer steaming is I can use other people's gift cards and thereby keep my daily usage anonymous - I can't do that with my cabletv company which tracks and resells the metadata of everything i do.

How about ..
