Re: uh oh... there isn't any.. TWC isn't necessarily a "union shop".. I've worked in several TWC systems and none of them were union either.

Re: Just what we needsaid by Dogfather:More cable consolidation. No thanks. No worries about that. The FCC won't let that happen. But they will allow the tel cos to consolidate. The FCC like the tel cos..... money.

Re: Just what we needIt swings both ways. A few years ago they were beating down the telcos with DSL line sharing while calling cable HSI "data" service and not subject to normal cable regulation. In 5 or 6 years it will go back to telco hating and kissing the ass of cable.
We have the best gov't corporations can buy.

You must have slept though all of the cable consolidation over the last 10 years.

noooooI do not want anybody to aqquire cablevision. I want to keep my uncapped 16.5/2 speeds and would like to still have the optyion to go to 38/5. (yes as of right now cablevision isnt capping anymore). IF Timewarner buys cablevision then those speeds would go bye bye.

There IS no other provider once you've experienced Cablevision's blazing fast Internet speeds. (Anti-CV folks need not reply. We've read it all before).

Re: bye byeATT already did rust HFC plant. ATT (well SBC) abandoned its Cable TV plant in CT. Wires still on the poles although amps/taps/fiber missing everywhere and the fiber is getting recycled for Uverse VRADs.

Re: bye byesaid by majortom1029:I guess he is including the discount from having all 3 services. You get the discount for just having OOL and Cable (as I do). I agree that TW buying CV will be a death nail on the fast and cheap OOL support. I have a friend who is TW just north of me (I'm in Rockland County) who is paying more than I am (I have BOOST) yet only gets 5000/512.

10/.5??? Hah! More like 5/.384 for that price with RR. Had 6+/1+ before Adelphia bit the dust and RR absorbed them.

AOL AssetsThe major technology assets AOL has....
- National Backbone network (ANS) - VOD Infrastructure - Dial Up POP's around the world - Content Management & Delivery system
The major marketing assets they have....
- Roughly 30/40 million existing and former clients for direct marketing - Relationships with major bricks & clicks based on using the 'keywords'
It's kind of sad really because they had some great ideas back in 1996-98 that we take for granted today, but they chose to get "big" first instead of actually building something. They still offer subscribers some incredible value on content.
While people may rue Steve Case, from a purely business perspective, merging with TW was a perfect way to divest the risk of AOL. (No different than Mark Cuban when he divested Yahoo shortly after selling Broadcast.com)
When they focused on the quarterly earnings and not the customers, then the end was easy to see.

Well this is sort of sad.I was hoping the title would state that CableVision was buying Time Warner Cable but it turned out just the opposite. Wouldn't it be nice if Cable Vision bought TWC? I'd take it, nothing wrong with my TWC that I have now but I'll take more for less if that's what CableVision will give me?
