Time Warner LA Class Action
Customers lose patience with service...
by Karl Bode Thursday 05-Apr-2007 tags: legal · business · cable
As previously mentioned, Time Warner Cable service in Los Angeles has been absolutely awful (see our forums) since they integrated recently acquired Adelphia systems in the region. The deal increased their subscriber count from 350,000 to 1.9 million. In the process, they acquired three different video-on-demand platforms, three distinct customer service phone and back-office systems, 16 headends and 69 hubs. Both MultiChannel News and local stations report on a class action lawsuit that's been filed against the cable provider.

That's not true. Customers will get a rate increase to pay for the lawsuit.

So, yes, Awesome!

Re: Yay!

Yup...
Makes me glad I wasn't a Comcast customer when that cutover happened here.
I'll keep my DirecTv, at&t POTS and DSL-X for now. A once/year blip is what I typically get, but both DSL-X and at&t are typically on the site in hours when there's a physical issue.
DirecTv has only been offline for me 10 minutes in 3 years, due to a heavy rainstorm.

Awesome!
Or maybe they will go out of business and sell it all to Comcast.

Really though, a class action lawsuit? Boy, it sounds like the customer service reps are dealing with hell. And to think, my call center took over all the Adelphia and TWC customers in Florida, and the only complaint is that the phone system isn't taking their phone number. Everything else works fine. I wonder what the real issue is. I mean, yeah, they got an ASSLOAD of new customers in an area that was hardly populated by them before, but they are national, they should have call centers all over the US to handle calls, and I know they didn't just lay off all the techs, they couldn't survive... Perhaps the employees are getting mad at some of the changes, and giving up on caring about the customer.

I have had a ton of issues with TWC moving from Adelphia. In fact my DVR is broken & guess what they say they can have a brand new one installed in record time 6 WORKING DAYS! I love TWC!

Have you taken your broken DVR to your local office for replacement? No? When my DVR broke I took it in and had my BRAND NEW, not refurbished DVR in seconds.

Re: Sign me up!

each area of TWC has its own warehouse for equipment and such. Also each area is different. You just can't send equipment from one division to another. TWC does not like that.

After reading this, I feel lucky we were transitioned to Comcast from Adelphia up here in Mendocino County in Northern California. Our email, network and account were switched over seamlessly, the only problem I have is getting them to push the right config file for the 8000/768 tier (we had 6000/768 with Adelphia, but when we got switched to Comcast they dropped our upload to 384, so I upgraded to Comcast's 8000/768 to get my upload back), but they're working on it.

Yeah, and Bill O'Reilly is "a genius" in your book? That guy is so full of hot air, and idiotic opinions. I wish someone would punch him in the nose like Geraldo back in the day.

Sue! Sue! Sue! It's the american way!

So In LA you can only get your tv fix from TW? You can't get DN or DTV? There is some sort of anti satellite bubble over the city preventing this?

IF your kid doesn't make the football team, SUE! If your kid fails history, SUE! If your neighbor paints his house a shade of blue you don't like, SUE! If your dumb ass can't hold on to a cup of coffee while driving, SUE! If your Cable co service sucks, SUE! SUE! SUE! SUE!

Who will benefit from this? The lawyers and only the scum sucking lawyers.

Will Comcast Be Next

Slow news day?

Why drag up a subject and point to an article that is 4 months old?

If you actually check the forums, things are getting starting to get better.

Perhaps because the lawsuit is related to it?

@rr.com
This lawsuit was just expanded to include San Diego and Desert Cities (Palm Springs)areas on 4-4-07.. (See the TV news report on the local news link.) So how is this news 4 months old ?
And things are not getting better in these areas, They are in fact getting worse.

I lose synce couple a times a week

The system in Palmdale / Lancaster was just upgraded not long ago and was rock solid with Adelphia and for awhile with TW. In the past month it has gone hill and my modem loses sync several times a week (sometimes it is several times per day).

Let's look at this a bit more closely.....

Hmmmm......

quote:
In the process, they acquired three different video-on-demand platforms, three distinct customer service phone and back-office systems, 16 headends and 69 hubs.
Instead of trying to bring everything into the fold right away, why did they not try and run it AS-IS and fix the real bad problems first, then concentrate of bringing in parts little by little. Seems they just tried to flip and switch and hoped it would work.

More bad planning. Like buying a house with no inspection.

Dear members of the jury....

At the start of this conversion, we had 350,000 customers.
That increased to 1.9 Million. What this means is that we increased the number of customers we have in this area by almost 5 1/2 times.

The plaintiffs allege that our service deteriorated, causing them much pain and emotional distress.

We say..that is a LIE! An Outright LIE!

If that is truly the case..why then, did our number of service calls only increase by a factor of THREE during this same period?

We would argue that our service was MUCH better than what they had before!

The numbers say, their argument doesn't FIT!
And if it doesn't FIT, you must Acquit!

Case closed.

ps: TW..you can PM me for my contact information and information on where I can send your bill for winning this case for you.

Re: Consumers 1, Big Company 99

they've had some sort of problem over the last couple of weeks.

Up ... down ... up ... down.

reset modem...reset router...all ok again. I'm just starting to feel irritated about the fact that I have to reset everything about once every 48 hours to keep service.

(Did I call? yes...as usual, they tell me nothings wrong. Don't think in all my years of having net access, have I ever heard a customer service rep actually admit that they are having issues.)

Re: Consumers 1, Big Company 99

I had a problem similar to that about half a year ago before the switch. It turned out to be a "bad Modem", I suggest go down to your TimeWarner (Probably the one on Palm Ave. - Old Town Orange) and get a new modem. Its free and easy, I did this and my connection worked GREAT (like it should).

Strange Timing

Yesterday my connection was upgraded to 10/1 I guess. I have really never had a problem and I have been with TW and Adelphia going on two years. There have been steady upgrades ever since I signed up. AT&T HSI sucked so hard I finally quit and got Adelphia and a couple of Vonage phone lines. Couldn't be happier! Vonage customer service is one of the worst in history but luckily I rarely have to call it. If there is a class action lawsuit count me out!!! Let companies do business and if they lose customers they WILL IMPROVE. 90% of lawyers make me want to vomit and piss on their faces. I'll keep the same old good service I've had for two years now.

Re: Strange Timing

No one said the service they offer is bad. The transition did sucked. In the beginning about 5 or more years ago. I had PacBell DSL, which was the worse piece of crap ever. Disconnected EVERYDAY, have to restart my router. F****** PPPoE connection sucks too. JUST USE DHCP. "Ok im done with my rant."

Count one more

I was getting decent speeds and pretty good uptime with Adelphia. After the conversion to TW my connection slows to a crawl several times a week. If you're going to multiply your customer base, make sure you have the infrastructure to handle it.

I just switched to DSL 3 months ago, i could take the Cust. Service anymore..... waiting an hour for someone to pick up the phone and if they need to transfer you it takes another hour is unacceptable. I hope to see this Lawsuit pick up some speed, it's amazing that Bankrupt Adelphia never had these problems.
