To Err is Human and of Interest to ET?
by TwoFrogs 11:41PM Thursday May 16 2002
If the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence succeeds, then it’s very likely the civilization we discover will be much older than our own. The reasoning is simple: if the typical civilization has the capacity to communicate by radio with other intelligence in the universe for only a few decades before it self-destructs, then it’s very unlikely that any two civilizations will happen to exist at almost the same small slice of time in the ten billion year history of our galaxy. The only way we’re likely to detect ET is if alien civilizations are much older than we are.

but, what if....................

they can communicate by means other than radio waves?
Then we are wasting our time with SETI, aren't we?
BTW, I have over 10,000 hours and almost 1000 unites processed since I joined in May of 1999.

So with that logic and thinking then we have only a few years left before we all go the way of the Dinosaur.

Huh?
I cannot see any logic at all in your statement in regards to mine.
I was just opening a discussion as to what other ways ET may be communicating to us, other than radio waves.

Re: but, what if....................

I don't think Anarky was actually replying to your post, but rather to the logic or I dare say illogic of the article itself, to me the logic does not make a whole lot of sence at all. Who's to say that a intelligent species is as stupid as ours, who's to say that they have to be violent or careless for the survival of their race??, why assume that intelligent life must kill itself within a given amount of time?............

Bottom line is the article is rediculous, the assumption that if we find them, they almost have to be older than us is not based on any credible scientific data.
