Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

Duh, the S3 just came out a couple of months ago and the iPhone 5 is due out imminently. Of course iPhone 4 sales would slow and the slowed just enough for the brand new S3 to outsell it. It's hardly an upset.

Let's see how the numbers look after the iPhone 5 release. I have a feeling that iPhone 5 sales numbers will make the S3 look like every other supposed iPhone killer that wasn't.

It's a silly C|Net article, but it does suggest that.
said by C|Net :

The weaker iPhone 4S sales likely aren't an indictment on the demand for Apple products, but merely a pause as consumers wait for the next iteration, commonly referred to as the iPhone 5. Apple is expected to unveil the phone next week, and pictures and videos have already leaked.

As a result, Apple should return to the top spot once the next iPhone launches.

Apple of course is trying to have the S3 Banned in the USA.

The S3 will remain strong even after iPhone 5. Well unless Apple bribes the courts into banning it. But hopefully the Bestbuys will have enough S3s in stock to ride out the ban. I would imagine the ITC cannot stop a shop owner from selling stuff in their warehouse already.

Seriously, fuck that crummy corporation Apple if they get the s3 banned. I just replaced my 4s with an s3 two days ago, and it blows the 4s out of the water.

Re: Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

I'd switch but I'm still trying to figure out a workaround for getting my ALAC catalog uploaded to google play without having to create duplicate MP3s first. Hopefully some future version of music manager will automatically offer conversion of any file it can't upload.

Does your S3 have Japanese locale support? My Galaxy S 5.0 doesn't and neither did my Xoom (before throwing the AU/KDDI ver on it).

My Galaxy Nexus has no problem with Japanese locations.

Re: Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

By location I mean, do you have the choice of Japanese in the language setup that gives you the Japanese menus, KB, etc?

It seems at least for my 2 Android devices, that Android software is typically localized or regional. My US Xoom only had English, French and Spanish for North America. My Galaxy S 5.0 WiFi had lots of European languages, English, Spanish and even Korean, but no Japanese.

For my Xoom, Motorola support is awesome. They offer unlocking utilities and ALL their regional software, even for regions where their device is rebranded like Japan. So it was no big deal to unlock it and install the JP AU/KDDI version ICS software on it. But for my Samsung, I haven't found any OEM utilities like that and frankly overall support for that particular Galaxy S (I think it is the same as the 5" Galaxy media player) is pretty bad. They released it and that was it, no updates or anything since. I haven't found any Samsung tools like Motorola offers and I really don't want to try and go the custom ROM/SW route. I'd prefer OEM support.

I like the specs on the SIII but the two things hanging me up are the ALAC thing with Google Play and more importantly the poor language support.

Yes, look at the bottom of the screenshot.

Unlocked GSM Nexus FTW.

I was lucky with my music collection since I already had a separate library down-converted from ALAC to more easily fit on my mobile devices. It took a little time to convert everything, but now that it's done, everything just works.

Re: Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

Excellent. I picked up an Asus TF700T this morning to replace my Xoom and it also has additional region support. I'm going to wait to the week just in case the iPhone 6 is some spectacular thing, otherwise I'll hit Sprint for an SIII.

Re: Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

I have used an iPad (not much different than an iPhone IMO besides the obvious size) and I prefer my original Asus Transformer to it for most everything. I have the keyboard dock for the Transformer (which is acceptable, but not the best keyboard) providing a physical keyboard and extra battery life. I love my MacBook Pro, but for the life of me I can't get on board with the iPhone or iPad. I'll take my Android devices over iOS anytime.

Re: Upset! iPhone 4S surrenders U.S. crown to Galaxy S3

I tried the keyboard dock at the store and really liked it. It reminded me of my old Asus 10" netbook which I was used to and unlike my Xoom, it easily kept up with my typing speed so I pulled the trigger and ordered a dock from Amazon before they start charging sales tax in Cali on the 15th.

Have you used ios6 yet? I have (ios developer). It's got some nice features, but honestly you may as well get the galaxy s3.

LOL, I have iOS6 and iPhone 5 on the brain. I really like the 700T. I wrote a review about it. I have both the 32GB TF700T and a 64GB iPad 3 and IMO the iPad is superior in a lot of ways. It is better constructed and has a better screen and is smoother with 1080P video playback. BUT it better be considering it was a whopping $400 more than the TF700T. I also have a lot invested in iTunes media, time invested in setting up my library, multiple Apple TV 3s (for airplay video), etc which also keeps me leaning toward iPad 3 over the TF700T. If I had to choose, I'd bend over, empty the wallet and stick with the iPad, but the Asus is still a very slick tablet and much better than the Sammy Tab 2's I was checking out. I originally was interested in getting a Nexus 7 until I found out they don't have an SD slot and with only 8-16GB, I couldn't deal with that.

The TF700T is a rocket compared to my Galaxy S Wifi 5" and my dual core Xoom. Even with 1080P, page flips and other screen animations are smooth as glass. And with the 1080P being only 10.1" + IPS it's a near Retina display quality. If you look REALLY close you can barely make out any pixels. From a normal reading distance you can't discern the pixels at all just like the Retina (but cheaper). The backlight is insane. It has a feature Asus calls IPS+ that cranks up the backlight to 600nits and even with dark videos like Afterschool's Flashback PV, I didn't see any bleed and blacks were still pretty black. It is bright enough to see while outside, something very difficult to do with my iPad. I also really like the custom widgets Asus ships with the tablet. I've also been beating it like it owes me money, downloading all my previously purchased apps from the Play store and even after a few hours, the battery gage had hardly moved. I could easily see 10+ hours of normal wireless web use from the battery. I'm stoked on this thing.

You won't be disappointed even with the steep price, particularly if you are partial to Android over iOS. However there are not that many apps that can take advantage of the 1080P display. I'm a whore for videos which is why I did it but you may be better off getting the TF300 with it's 720P display. By the time 1080P Android tablets are common and have software support, newer faster tablets will be out.

Hotel wi-fi has always sucked

What planet does that writer live on? Free or paid access, I've never had good wi-fi at a hotel.
