Re: Police Arrest Researcher Who Showed E-Voting Machines

are not secure.

All his arrest does is indict the machines. There would be no need to arrest him (he wouldn't be taken seriously) if the machines were really secure.

Re: Police Arrest Researcher Who Showed E-Voting Machines

No kidding.

If they arrest the person who did the attack, no one will know that the machines are secure or not. It's cheaper for them to arrest him instead of fixing the actual problem.

..until the sh*t hits the fan when they actually use the machines and someone else gets voted in.

RE:Internet and broadband: the difference between cake and i

I'm not sure what point the author of this story was trying to make. Was he trying to say that net neutrality is bad? Because he clearly stated that he believes net neutrality is essential...
Accessing that huge library in the cloud, everyone would probably agree, is greatly enhanced by broadband; giving everyone access to broadband to do that, via some form of net neutrality is not only a good idea, it's the best idea.
Once you have access to the internet, why should it matter if you're using it to "enter an Internet casino", as he loves to use as an example, or do your shopping online?

It sounds like the author would be much happier if we all went back to the days where BBSes and card catalogs were the best the world had to offer...

I believe the author confused net neutrality and the" need" for ubiquitous broadband deployment.
